[Myanmar] Central Burma Sets Rainfall Records

Featured Replies

Parts of central Burma set records for rainfall last week, according to officials from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. A low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal dumped 135 millimeters of rain on Pakokku, Magwe Division, on Sept. 5, up from a previous one-day record of 129 mm, while Yamethin in Mandalay Division received 113 mm during the same 24-hour period, compared to the 106-mm level reached in 1974. The heavy rainfall in Pakokku did not, however, result in flooding, as the area has been dry through much of the rainy season.
