Can A British Mental Health Nurse Give Botox In Thailand

It's not a good idea to put a question like that to a forum like this.

If you really want a professionally competent answer that you can rely on then, email your registration authority back in the UK.

If they confirm to you in writing ( including email) that you can, then they can't later say you are guilty of professional misconduct. It's a legal principle called "estoppel by representation'.

If you are reported for carrying out this activity and your only defense is that you were told by Joe on Thai Visa that it was OK then they might also form the view that you have poor professional judgement.

I trust this is helpful.

Besides the work permit, one must also be quallified according to Thai law.

This question is better answered in the health forum.

You may be interested to know that the General Medical Council has issued guidance, applicable from 23 July 2012, to the effect that doctors must undertake a physical examination of patients before prescribing non-surgical injectable medicinal products for cosmetic use. The guidance goes on to state that doctors must not, therefore, prescribe these medicines by telephone, fax, video-link, or online. Similar guidence will be issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

This is just the first step in an ongoing process which is intended to "clean up" the often murky nature of the cosmetic enhancement industry in the UK

It would be virtually impossible for you to practise as an RN in Thailand unless you speak. read and write Thai. There are no reciprocal registration arrangements and you would therefore have to sit exams to qualify as a Thai nurse. The examinations are of course set in Thai.

What your position here in Thailand would be in relation to "administering" Botox I have no idea but you would need to secure a work permit!

+1 to the above. You cannpot legally work as a nurse in Thailand unless you obtain Thai licensure which is almost impossible.

You cannot legally work at anything without a work permit.

And I am not sure that even Thai RNs are allowed to adminsityer Botox, i beleive it is limited to physicians.

I have my underarms botoxed every 6-7 months to stop excessive sweating. (Works like a charm and has made washing my blouses so much easier)

I've used various clinics that specialize in cosmetic procedures. In every case, it's a MD doing the injections and it's a very straight-forward procedure for the underarms -- just dozens of small pin-prick injections with an insulin-type syringe. It's not like injecting botox into someone's muscle near their eyes! A nurse could easily do it, but it must not be permitted here.

thanks for your replies..i understand the visas and medical council, test etc etc...the easiest way was to walk into a botox shop and talk to the doctor, he confirmed that nurses or dentists cannot give botox in thailand , only doctors can
