Tks again - my gf has a nephew who used to work for The korat supply co. (now she tells me!!). He is now a contractor installing ohead mains . He says underground should be 25 mm copper. Antbody any idea about the code rating on the cable label? I'm pretty sure it says code 4

Bet it's 'Table 4' THW http://www.bangkokca...ALOG/THWEN.HTML this is the usual stuff they run overhead from meter to house.

Be aware that you can't use this underground, for underground (direct or in conduit) you should use NYY http://www.bangkokcable.com/catalog/BCC_CATALOG/NYY2EN.HTML

Happy new year everybody

My house wiring is proceeding (very slowly) But every plug point has an earth and as far as I can see NO stolen neutrals (YET). One question - we are using 4 mm for aircon and shower units but today I noticed no feeds to the aircon points have earths. The electrician said that the aircon istallers will install earths to a ground spike - but to me that sounds like a lot of visible cable outside (4 units spread over quite a large area) and I have insisted he runs earths from the aircon points to the CU unit am I correct in this?

Thanks

Yes, the units should be grounded back to your CU earth bar. There is nothing to stop you running the grounds to the nearest outlet that has a ground if getting the new wire in is going to be an issue.

Thanks again Crossy. will 1.5mm earth be OK or does it need to be bigger?

If you are using 20A breakers on the A/C then 1.5mm will be fine, if bigger it then comes down to the length of the run, 2.5mm will certainly be OK for a domestic situation.

How Strong are the stanards fuses in Thailand ? Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Assuming you're talking about final circuits then you usually find 6 or 10A for lighting, 20A for outlets, 20A for most A/C and 3.5kW water heaters. Bigger water heaters fused as required.

Incoming supplies are not usually fused by the supplier but a 5/15 meter would have a 15 or 20A incoming breaker, 15/45 would have 50 or 63A and 30/100 a 100A breaker.

Hi Crossy

I've just had a confusing thought!

You may or may not remember but I am going to have 2 interconnected CU units - one for aircons and one for the rest.

Does this mean that the earths for the aircon that I refer to previously have to go to the earth bar in the CU for aircon or can I pick up any old earth wire. Then my mind thinks. If I have to take the aircon earths to the aircon earth in the aircon CU - DO I need a separate ground rod for this CU unit??

I'm about to put the aircon earthwire in today for the sparks so a quick answer would be very very much appreciated.

If at all possible run the A/C grounds back to the CU, link the two CU earth bars with a nice fat cable (10mm+) and just have one rod.

You could pick up any old earth if running a ground back to the CU is impractical, but best practice is to run separate wires back to the CU.

Hi Crossy

In the absence of a quick reply (and that's NOT a complaint) and the fact I had to get it done today I have run a separate earth to each unit (except for two units which are inline - here I have Tee'd of the earth for one unit although they have separate feeds (is that OK?) or should I install an extra earth cable instead of the Tee?

I managed to get the earth cable down the wall trunking but with the trunking in the ceiling the runs were too long and too full to get the cable inside so I have taped and cable tied the earth to the outside of the relavent trunk - not ideal but the best I can do.

Thanks again for all your good advice
