Last night I went to a Local Mcdonalds in Chiang Mai area.

Ordered a set. TO up size the fries and drink was 10 baht but I only wanted the bigger drink So the 99 Bt set ended up at 119 Bt. ??? <deleted> IF both are 10 why is just one 20 Bt extra ? So the manger can over and re run it up Now 26 Baht extra ???

So I just up sized, for 10 Bt and left half the fries on the table for them to do as they wish with.

KFC up sized the fries or the drink for 5 baht or both for 10 Baht

To be honest, I wouldn't complicate their lives with a special request. Your final solution is what I would have done to begin with. I don't know what the procedures are there but some companies are very strict about inventory control and product consistency. It is possible that giving you fries in the smaller packaging when you paid for the larger could cause inventory reporting headaches and putting to few fries in the larger package could leave them open to getting in some kind of trouble. It seems silly that it is better to waste product that isn't wanted but large companies have to put rules in place that cover the needs of the entire enterprise and it's specific challenges even if it doesn't make sense in every circumstance. I would think employee theft and product consistency are far greater issues at the corporate level than the occasional waste of a few baht in french fries.

It all due to the computer age! When they push the "Set A" button it automatically prints out large fries and large drink. There's no provision for them to do otherwise! I once got stuck in a huge line in Pizza Hut because the cash register was broken and nobody was able to give correct change until they located a battery powered calculator.

And it wasn't in Bangkok, but in beautiful, sunnny Irvine, California!
