Report Thailand's Future at Risk: Education and Job Woes Loom
Quite simple really - less teaching about Buddha and royal history and more actual education. Oh, and teachers must be allowed to fail kids - what good is an exam if a pass is guaranteed? Its much the same as all the major issues here - road accidents etc. Just do things correctly, enforce the existing laws and stop the 'mai bpen rai' attitude. But do the people actually want change? I used to think that it was natural that they do, now I think they are the same as their government - just talk about it. -

Good news for Americans: Trump is giving $600 rebate to everybody
if govts restrict free speech, then everyone is up in arms. but then people abuse their free speech and say whatever they want. the media needs to be checked by a third party maybe. they're allowed to print whatever they want. i shouldn't have made that post as it was impossible for anyone to know i was being sarcastic. -

Tourism Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Feel "Short-Changed" Amid Local Deals
It is coincidental, that I also did about 15 years ago, first to Bkk/Phuket hospital, they referred me straight to Bangkok because they didn't have the laser equipment on Phuket then. But stubborn as I was, I had my doubts and went for a “second opinion” to the “International Hospital” also on Phuket, and that doctor couldn't find anything! He requested me to come to his private clinic in the evening, where he had different equipment and could look at it better, but the opinion remained negative. In the meantime, I had informed the insurance company in Europe and they arranged an appointment plus tickets for the next day in Bangkok, where it turned out I did have a detached retina. Total cost then 10000 Thb. -

Economy US Imposes 19% Tariff on Thailand in Major Trade Shift
The U.S.-Thailand trade agreement, finalized August 1, 2025, aims for mutual benefit, not one-sided market access as you think. Thailand’s economy, while facing challenges, remains classified as an upper-middle-income country by the World Bank, with a strong export sector (e.g., automotive, electronics). Its market protections, like the 300% effective tariff on U.S. cars, reflect strategic priorities shared by many nations, balancing domestic growth with trade obligations. The agreement likely includes selective tariff reductions to avoid U.S. tariffs on Thai exports, fostering reciprocity rather than unilateral concessions. Global trade dynamics are shifting, but export-driven economies like Thailand adapt through negotiated agreements, not by dismantling protections entirely. Its not as simple as the US administration makes out but appeals to its voters.
