Some local Thais are playing "catch-up" with Phuket. In the last two weeks, my wife, who is a Filipina so speaks very good English witnessed a white songtheaw (Krabi-Ao Nong) charge two Japanese tourists 1000 Baht each for their ride when the fare is 50 Baht. This was not a "special ride". The songtheaw was packed. Yesterday on another white songtheaw, a tourist asked the driver how much to Ao Nong? The driver told him to get in and he would tell him the cost upon arrival.... I wonder how long until they catch -up?
