You can do pretty much anything you like on a scooter in Thailand :o

Just make sure the driver at least has a helmet and it is registered, taxed and insured.

Keep in mind that the average scooter is woefully underpowered for one person of European descent, and a passenger adds a lot of weight. Thais know how to behave on the pillion, though.

You sometimes see a family of five on a ten horsepower bike. Traffic hazards.

I was under the impression that it's illegal to ride any two-wheeled vehicle in LOS without at least 2 passengers.

Exemptions include carrying a large amount of cargo as long as said cargo is at least as tall (or twice as long) as the vehicle itself.

Exemtions to the former include oil, gas or any other hazardous/highly flammable materials, which do not have to comply with the size rule.

I f you weld a noodle soup cooking facility to your bike, you can remove the tail lights alltogether.
