Change In Foreign Land Ownership Laws?

Featured Replies

How likely is it that Thailand with relax its laws on foreign ownership of land in the future?

With Thailand about to intergrate further with the rest of ASEAN could this lead to some kind of change? I understand it is possible for foreigners to own land in (most?) other ASEAN countries such as Malaysia.

I think it will happen one day, maybe not for quite a few years, but it will happen.

Not in your lifetime.

I doubt integration includes matters pertaining to national sovereignty and security.

It will propably never change, what would be the positive outcome for Thais be if it was done. I can't think of one.

How is malaysia allowing foreigners to own land? I have only heard of the second home program, which is not real ownership and not a lifelong visa as it can be terminated or not renewed. Freehold is only above 1 million ringgit in certain areas. Not that 'open' in my opinion.

If anything will make it worse, its not the piddly villas on a rai of land in Phuket etc they are worried about, its the vast agriculture land they dont want falling into foreign neighbours hands

Not going to happen. Its politics. No Thai politician is going to float the idea, he would be de-elected and lose his place at the trough.

Laos has ownership regulations for land

a 500.000 $ investment will allow foreigners to own the land.

Lao private owner can lease out land for 20 years to any one.

ASEAN member too

Not going to happen in anyone's current lifetime. End of conversation.

cant take it away - so give people 100 year leases

same as HK had

I got more chance of meeting the devil this is amazing Thailand Miracles do not happen here regardless what the TV adds say !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
