I'd like to buy an Iphone 5 in BKK but it seems to be sold out everywhere and it's not possible to order one at the apple store. Is there any place where i might get lucky?

I think the first batches sold out via reserved programs quite quickly, but you might be able to find a grey-market model assuming you don't mind paying a significant premium.

In the States, the website says wait time of 3-4 weeks but in fact people are getting them in about a week. So maybe you'll get yours quicker than you expect.

How big an issue is the 'letter boxing' of apps due to the longer screen? Is the extra row of icons really that useful? With a 3-4 week lead time perhaps a 4S, or even better, one of the high-end Android phones might be better?

As you know, the 4s can support iOS6 so you'd have basically all the capability of iPhone 5 at a much cheaper prices (although the 4s is limited to 3G). This is what I have (in the States) and am very happy with it.

I was in a True shop in Pattaya and they sell the i-phone.

I don't know if they have them in stock as I am not on the market for one, but they did have one you could play with.
