Wanted: cheap car hire information

Need to rent a car for 2-3 months in Bangkok starting from early April. Any recommendation?

I know of a couple of local cheap Thai companies but I recon OK for Thais (the wife)but not advisable for farangs.

All the big outfits are in town -Budget-Hertz-etc but tend to be a bit $$$.
