Iran's Manhattan Project Gaining Speed

The International Atomic Energy Agency has removed their surveillance equipment from Iran’s nuclear sites: Iran Leader Threatens New Nuclear Policy.

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran’s hard-line president threatened to revise his policy of working within international atomic frameworks, as diplomats in Europe said the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency had stripped most of its surveillance equipment from Iranian nuclear sites.

The diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential developments, said the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency had been left with only the most basic means to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities.

More at the Telegraph: Iran plant ‘has restarted its nuclear bomb-making equipment’.

Iran’s controversial Natanz uranium processing plant has successfully restarted the sophisticated equipment that could enable it to produce material for nuclear warheads, according to reports received by Western intelligence.

In the past few days Iranian nuclear scientists have reportedly restarted four of the centrifuges required to produce weapons-grade uranium, and have begun feeding them with uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas, a key component in the production of nuclear bombs.

This crucial development follows Iran’s decision to withdraw its co-operation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna after the body decided last week to refer Iran to the United Nations Security Council.

Iranian officials have moved quickly to obstruct the work of the UN nuclear inspectors still working in the country’s nuclear facilities.

Intelligence officials say restrictions have been imposed on the inspectors’ movements between the various facilities at Natanz.

They have been specifically excluded from those areas where the Iranians have announced they would resume uranium enrichment, and have ordered the UN inspectors to report to officials running the plant on a daily basis. Security cameras installed by IAEA officials to monitor key facilities have been disabled.

Mutually Assured Destruction means nothing to these lunatic mullahs. We can't allow them nuclear weapons. Period. :o

Producing small amounts of U235 from centrifuges is one of a multitude of steps required to create a fission weapon. The Iranians don't currently possess the technology to complete all these steps. There are a limited few countries who do. In this one area, the key is to restrict access to the rest of the technology that they don't have. This won't prevent the Iranians from developing weapons on their own, but it will definitely slow them down by several years or a decade or two.

In the meantime, it is time for the crackdown to begin. The Iranian president is a complete fanatic so he and his country should be treated as such. Cut diplomatic and economic ties. They want to be an isolated power, so fine, isolate them. Their leader is just another violent revolutionary tyrant who wants power in the hands of the few rather than the many. So continue to expose him for what he is, a fanatic for all of his adult life.

Israel P.M Sharon might still be in a coma but cant see his boys in blue putting up with this for too much longer. :o

While all this may be true we've already seen how useless sanctions are in the case of North Korea and they weren't a major oil producer. Only the poor suffer from sanctions and they will blame the outside, not their own government.

send in the fanatical christians - It can be handbags of holybooks at 10 paces...

Tomes of mass destruction!

Trouble is, I don't think Israel has anything with the range to hit it right now. Can bet they're working on it though. :D

Time to call for Israel to be disarmed, send in UN-inspectors and boycott their economy?

Can't allow these fanatics to have long-range WMDs... :o

Absolutely!

This whole Mid-East problem stems from the US policy on Israel.

If we just pull out of the area and develop the Canadian oil sands & start pumping oil from ANWR everything will be OK. :D

...not to forget the unicorns dancing in the fields to the tune of Kumbaya! :D

Send Cindy Sheehan and all the anti US, anti-Israel, anti-Semetic kooks over to Iraq to protest.

Don't use their heads for much anyway. :o

I'm no fan of Israeli forgien policy, but if a country openly developing a nuclear capability has a president making speeches that your country should be burned off the face of the earth, it would be irresponsible not to remove their ability to do so.

That´s my opinion. I admit.

I just saw something on that on tv yesterday.... That´s huge... They are stripping an area larger than the english Landmass for oil sands... Hrrible. And they say the wildlife will be restored.....in time....

Urgh... :o

The Russians are now offering to process the uranium for the Iranian government. The Chinese seem to agree. This would evidently show if Iran is really considering processing the stuff for nukes of energy production. Will the U.S. give this proposal a chance to work or will they pull the same stunt as they did with the U.N last time?

That's correct.

Iran has stalled the Russians and are processing U235 or whatever on their own.

It's gonna get real interesting over the next few months... :o

The US will surrender to Iran demands thanks to China and Russia. It's going to get really funny for Bush supporters to justify that one :o

"Giving up" is a French tradition, but countries with a history of military victories don't usually bend over, grease up, touch their toes and acquiesce so readily! :o

Giants with clay feet as they say :D
