Installing Thai Maps To A Gps Tablet

Featured Replies

I'm quite impressed with a Chinese tablet named the Freelander PD20 which comes with GPS. Knowing very little about GPS systems, how do you go about getting maps for Thailand installed on the tablet?

Nostra maps from the play store. But is online. Sygic from the play store is offline but you have to pay.

The tablet has internet capabilities, so do I just do a search for Nostra and download maps for Thailand, is it that easy?

Yes. Just download Nostra from the Google Play store. It is the Thailand map.

I find out that the GPS only works when connected to the Internet, so pretty much useless if you wanted to use it in a car etc.

You need to change gps settings from Settings. There are just too many dam_n options in Android.

Mine (different tablet with dual sim slots and GPS) works without Internet, but uses wifi / 3G to acquire location fast if available.

For Sygic, you can try it out for 7 days free. I recommend it.

I just looked at Nostra and cannot see the point in it when Google Maps does the same and possibly better. Nostra is certainly useless for driving as I cannot even read the fonts on screen when sat in my office. Try Sygic, it has maps for many countries including Thailand, runs without internet unlike Nostra, and can be side loaded if you don't want to pay for it. It's not great (try doing a search with it - that sucks) but the rest is ok and I haven't seen better on Android!

Please explain "side loaded".

Please explain "side loaded".

= download a cracked version and install it, without using Google-Play....very good advice..sick.gif

But I can confirm, Sygic is good piece of software ("side-loaded" or not).

The maps are ok and the navigation works well, even on my cheap Huawei Smartphone.

Btw, make sure you find a good spot to put your 7" Tablet on your car. I don't recommend windshield, it blocks too much view.

I plan to put it on top of Aircon in middle console (it will block Clock but use some space below to not obstruct my view) in Toyota Camry.

I can't even imagine 7" tablet on smaller cars. I figured out 5" is the best size to put in WindShield.

You are talking to a complete luddite here. What is a "cracked version"?
