Most tourists are in Patong. Just be prepared to pay high rents and key money.

I would suggest though that since you have never been here to first come here, look at things and make a business plan.

'open a business in Phuket' - you will need a comprehensive business plan and enough start-up money to get you through the rough times (and the low season). I wish you the very best of luck - you will need it.

Looks like the op has vanished, but if he comes back, some questions that could help us out would be, What is your business background and in what industry? Were you looking for a business to keep yourself busy, or were you looking for a business to support yourself and would allow some savings from the business? How much investment capital were you looking at putting into said business? As mentioned above, do you currently have a business plan? What else can you tell us about yourself and your business plan? The more info we have, the more info we can try to give you seeing as quite a few members here have been here quite a long time and have seen various businesses and business ideas.

Its not that easy to open a Business here, but then again it isn't anywhere in Asia.

However it is possible, you need to get your head around the legal requirements etc for operating in Thailand.

We trade in most countries across the region and despite what others will state, Thailand is no worse or better than any other country. All have there benefits and disadvantages the trick is t find out what they are and avoid the bad and take advantage of the good.

Get a good plan together add 40% for planned time and expenditure, don't give in to corruption or the doubters.

Best of luck to you. If it's tourism your looking at work out what type of Tourist you are targeting, then chose location from there.

there is a massive shortage of bars, restaurants, hotels and guest houses, the best way is to have no idea, trust the working girls fully, bring your life savings and your family inheritance, get a ex bar thai girlfriend that is dedicated, but will run when the money runs out, because she has fleeced every penny out of you, knowing you have the satisfaction of saying "i can do all my staff" and in turn they are doing you financially, sitting there for at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, watching your investment dwindle away.

Best way, take a long holiday in Thailand, do your homework, listen to no one and use that thing called "common sense", there is nowhere else in the world that i know of like phuket that you will be parted with your money by the opposite sex or even the same sex in a dress.

i seen things over here that are simply mind boggling, regarding business, money, women, and i say to these people would you have done this back home, "no" then why do it here, regardless to say, they end up on a flight back home with there tail between there legs.

simply by your posting OP, it's a worrying sign, asking a bunch of strangers for advice and not even doing the most basic of research on catchment business areas, google it at least!!!!!

I wish you had simply posted your 1st paragraph without the words of wisdom that follow . . . I do love sarcasm! clap2.gif

^^ This reminds me. Is there already a "Moron's guide to Thailand - how to lose your wealth and health in 180 days " ?

If not, it could be fun to write and there is no lack of capable writers in the TV Phuket forum.

Yes, there is such a book, it's entitled "To make a small fortune in Thailand, start with a large one"

Yes, repeated on TV Ad Nauseum.

There are quite a few people that have a good snigger whenever they read it. The saying should be prefaced "If you're an idiot......."

A mobile food and drinks cart that can service the hungry ,thirsty people sitting in traffic jams all over the island.

great idea, maybe a mostly mobile massage too. the girl could jump in your car at the tesco lights and by the time you get past central you could have had a 1hr oil massage with happy ending.

Any number of guesthouses for lease in Nanai Rd. Look in the Phuket Gazette. One last week http://www.phuketgaz...icle129686.html

Mind you, you have to wonder why there are so many for sale ?? As I said before you must have a business plan to make your guesthouse work where many other folks cannot make it work.

The most tourists - Patong, followed by the Karon/Kata area. Other places you might consider Kamala and Chalong.

If I were in your shoes, I would take a couple of days for each area and move from( stay at) guesthouse to guesthouse and talk to the owners about business, from a curiosity point and not an " I want to open a guesthouse too" point. Take your time and do your research.

hmmm..chucks a question over the wall and goes quiet.

Yesterday I could not spell business but today I haz one.

No mate kudos and all that to find your dream lifestyle but as many suggest, do some homework!

Some basic stuff like target market and size, estimating fixed and variable costs vs revenue and margins . ...working or attending to your business 12 hours a day ain't no dream . Realistic not dream figures will, in all probability, give you a wake up call.

Evidence of my eyes and ears in Phuket suggests that all small time tourist service industry players are suffering.

Anyways good luck wherever you are...
