To be married in Thailand April

Can any one that has gone thru the spouse visa process explain what this is and what are you declaring

Qoute from the Aust Embassy web site Bangkok

• Statutory declarations

Australians married in Thailand must provide a pro-forma statutory declaration. The Thai Government requires that such declarations be witnessed at the Australian Embassy Bangkok. They will not accept declarations from Australia. A fee of AUD$20 is payable for this service.

wozza, this is a form that is available from the Consular Services part of the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. You are declaring that you have, never married / been divorced /widowed.

This declaration then has to be translated into Thai. And then authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As does your Certificate of Divorce if you were previously married.

With your skates on, it can all be done in a day by yourself. Being the lazy person I am, I organized a translation service just outside the embassy, to do all the running around :o

Thanks

Do I just turn up at the Embassy or do you need an appointment

And what sort of money would this lazy person expect to pay to the translators

No appointment required for the Consular Services section of the embassy. The guard at the front of the embassy (where you have to leave any bags you are carrying) will probably ask you "do you have an appointment" just tell him you are going to Consular Services and you wont have a drama.

I had a few extra things to be translate / authenticated, so I could not give you an accurate costing for 1 item. But for 4 it was about 4200 bht. This price was negotiated down from about 5600 bht. If you get in early enough, it can all be done in one day. Mine was returned the next afternoon.
