Hi guys,

I have a copy of Microsoft Office on my laptop that is defaulted to the Thai Language, I did a search on Google on how to change the language settings via my control panel but this didn't work, any idea how I go changing it to English?

Thanks

A couple of ways may be possible:

1) When you buy your PC with Microsoft Office, often they will install the language converter at the same time. On my PC, I click on:

Start

All Programs

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office Tools

Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings

This opens the language app and you can choose from there

2) On the individual programs such as Excel.

On mine I would click:

Office Button

Excel Options

Popular

Language

and choose.

A lot will depend on what version of software was installed. I've had this issue in the past as well. eg: first time I could only access Thai on everything, another time where I could access English/Thai for Excel and Thai only for Word

3) If you buy the PC from Panthip always:

A) ask them for a version that can run English and Thai

B ) ask that they install the Language Converter tool for you as in 1) above

C) Check before you leave the shop

If you're still struggling, just take it back to Panthip and get them to re-install MS Office as per point 3)

They usually charge about THB 400 if I take it back to reinstall Windows and/or MS Office

Back up all your data files first!

Bit difficult as you do not say what Office you have, or OS your running, if Win 7 then this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972813

or any of the others depending what you have...

Of course if the copy is a copy then your out of luck from MS

Edit: If you do not need MS Office, why not just download the free Open Office, more or less the same with better rating..

You will need to install a language pack.

They are not free, but for half the price I provide you the link where you can legally download them for free.biggrin.png

Thanks for the quick reply I'll give it a go - that's a nice Christmas Present it being free and all biggrin.png

Please post your experience.

I understand libreoffice evolved from openoffice, some major schism concerning the development direction of openoffice occurred, and a lot of the crew jumped ship.

Libreoffice runs well under Win7, I but cannot say it is better than MSOffice because... haven't used MSOffice for a few years.

It comes as a revelation what can be done using 'simple' text editors such as notepad and wordpad (R click on a document, go to 'open with'...),

which are compatible with linux stuff.

There is a great open source spreadsheet (ie excel equivalent) for linux/win, Gnumeric, free download from the usual sources. AA
