Mean while, down a country road in Songkhla the kids are out for a bike ride .... I'm sorry but I should have identified the story behind the gate and it's location. It is the entrance to the " Phaya Phichai Daaphak Shrine "and is situated in amphur Phichai Uttaradit. Phraya Pichai Daphak (Pichai of the Broken Sword) had his previous name as “Joi”. He was born in 1741 A.D. at Ban Huay Ka of Mueang Pichai. When he was young, his parents sent him to study at Wat Mahathat (Wat Yai).At 14, he fought with a son of Mueang Pichai Governor. After that fighting, hewas expelled from the temple and changed his name to “Thongdee” He practiced Thai boxing and sword fighting until he was the expert of both. In 1762 A.D., he went on an adventure trip to Tak province and joined a boxing tournament during the Word Hornor ceremony. He finally managed to beat a boxing master and was given a treat by Prince Taksin and appointed to “Luang Pichai Asa”.Burmese troops invaded Ayutthaya in 1765 A.D. and until January 3, 1766 A.D. when Ayutthaya was nearly lost. Phraya Taksin and his troops foughtwiththe Burmese and made a stand in Phrachin Buri town. Luang Pichai Asa joined this fight bravely. On June 14, 1767 Praya Tak invaded Chantaburi province and sat on the throne. On November 6, 1767 Luang Pichai Asa joined KingTaksin to evade the Burmese at Po Sam Ton Camp and Suki the Burmese Commander-in-chief- surrendered. Krung Si Ayutthaya became independent again. After that, King Taksin decided to move the capital to Thonburi. In 1768, King Taksin appointedLuang Pichai Asa as “Chao Muen Waiworanart” theroyal body guard and he went to battle Pimai town where Krom Muen Theppipit set himself up the King to govern the town. After the fight, Chao MuenWaiworanart was appointed as “Phraya Siharatdecho”. In 1769, Phraya Siharatdecho was thecommander-in-chief and went to batter Nakornsithammarat town.In 1770 A.D. King Taksin and his troops went to seizePhitsanulok town and Sawangburi town. Phraya Siharatdecho was appointed as “Phraya Pichai” thegovernor general of Pichai town and he took his troop fight and protect the town.In 1772 A.D. Posupla Burmese Commander in chief who guarded Chiang Maitown went to batter with Mueang Lablae and also Pichai town. Phraya Pichai fought with the Burmeseand could save the towns. In 1773 A.D. Posupla came back to Pichai again. Phraya Pichai and his soldierswent out to fight until his sword was broken. The Burmese troops lost again. This fight was well known due to his broken sword. In 1782 A.D. after the reign of King Taksin the Great, King Rama I establishedBangkok as the new capital.
