Google Translate And Other Google Services In English

Featured Replies

I have, after some efforts, managed to find Google search in English and even added this to my search toolbar. I am also enrolled in Google+ in English.

However, every other Google page that I open (even though most of them show my Google+ details in the top right hand corner) are in Thai only and I can see way of getting them into English. Particularly irritating is Google Translate, which I cannot now use at all.

I would be very, very grateful for any solutions members may be able to offer.

I don't know the best answer; others will.

They will want to know what operating system and what browser you are using if you need detailed step by step.

Until an experienced and recent Thai power user shows up, try pasting this in your browser's address bar and then click on go: 74.125.224.64

That is Google's US IP address. If it works, you could make it your default home page, or hotlink it.

Also, this is the US IP for google translate: 74.125.224.64

I don't know if it gives you a feed by your IP and location. I notice that for me in the US there are choices at the top of the page for "from" and "to" languages.

This question comes up frequently on thaivisa.com. Offhand, I think you should try www.google.com/ncr. Cheers, AA

Many thanks for the first two replies. Sadly, aarn, the /ncr link simply takes me to the Thai language Google search page. NeverSure, you, on the other hand, can be more sure of yourself. That address works perfectly, and, best of all, enables one to reach other Google pages, all in American English. Coincidentally, in searching for a Bing Russian-English translator (having given up on Google) I found an English-language Google Translate quite by chance. I now have ways to get to just about everything in Google I may want in English. I'm very grateful.

On the other hand, it would still be great to find a way to ensure that Google links automatically come up in English. A nerdish friend assures me there is one, but was unable to find it and show it to me. If some clever guy here can provide directions, that would be great.

This worked for me, Internet options, settings, language, set GB Eng as default

You may need to clear your cache. Each browser has a place to do it, but it's never very thorough. I use CCleaner which is free and does a very good job. Google if you want it. The two CC's are correct and I really believe it originally meant Crap Cleaner.

If you don't know, your computer stores copies of recently visited pages. When you go to a web page, it first looks to that cache of pages to speed up browsing. Some pages have "no cache" language built into them to cause a refresh, but most don't. If you want a clean slate you really need to empty that cache, or hosts file.

Another thing to do is to ask your computer for a "hard refresh" and not look to the hosts file. You do that with Ctrl+R.

BTW, I'm glad my idea worked. It was a long shot hunch. I really like trying PattayaPhom's idea but I can't do it from here and get your results.

The more I think about it, this might be your host file - your cache. You'd first have to clear it with CCleaner or at the very least, your browser's option to do something similar to clear or delete browsing history.

Neither made any difference, I'm afraid.

Bullseye again! The culprits were Google cookies, doubtless imported by my ex-girlfriend. Many, many thanks.

Welcome, but I got lucky. I'm not in LOS where I can test ideas. Just happy it's working.

I question the cookies and rather think it was the hosts file, both of which are cleared upon deleting browsing history with CCleaner and some with the browser's tool. It could have been either or both though.

Definitely the cookies. I removed those last, one by one, and that's what did it.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed here, irrespective of whether your suggestion actually worked in my specific situation. Your help is enormously appreciated.

Well it was then. Cookies can be made to redirect, so google must make them for various countries. I didn't know they did but it makes sense.

Happy it's working.

Go to google.com, this should re-direct to google.co.th

At the bottom of the middle section, you'll see 'Google.co.th ที่อยู่ในภาษา: English' - click English - this should change all google's services to English for you.
