I'm back at my Thai book (Becker, Beginning), enjoying a spurt of motivation that started yesterday.

With an eye to learning to read Thai, I'm back at the three consonant groups (hi, mid, low). Focused on the middles. Reviewed them and then over then next couple hours analyzed written Thai from a newspaper with large font. I made a game of it, first hunting out all the middles, and only middles. Every time i came across a middle, i first said the consonant name (i.e. K Kai...). Then, to finally memorize those pesky tone rules, I am identifying whether it is a "middle + live = mid tone" or "middle + dead = low tone" and then reading the syllable.

That was fun, and I think I finally am comfortable with the tone rules for middle consonants. Today i move on to the highs. This was an interesting and efficient way to work with learning those consonants.

Just wanted to pass that on--might be useful for others!
