Even Psy says Gangnam is over circa 1 January 2013.

M-pop is Malaysian pop. According to the ever so influential Washington Post's In and Out list, K-pop is out, M-pop is in.

Never heard of M-pop? Me either.

The current acts:

Dynda, V.I.P, Max 24:7, Gula-Gula, Forteen, P.O.P and TIGA.

Also of local note:

Out -- Tofu

In -- INSECTS

Somewhat more seriously, it's cool that pop music is getting more globalized, not dominated as much by predictable countries. Maybe next year, M-pop out and Thai pop in? The idea that a Korean pop song could be such a global phenom lubricates the potential for more openness to "foreign" sounds in future.

Agreed and i share your idea on this development. But in the end it will never reach the 'western' audience because unfortunatly they have have been infulenced and indoctrinated to never be ready for a fresh breath of air like M-pop nor K-pop.

Sorry to be negative to your statement but thats my feeling.

All i want to do is hope they will break through myself:

When I hear some good K-pop or M-pop or T-pop I might agree that pop music needs to become more globalized, but that has not happened yet. Can one be "indoctrinated" into having lousy taste?

If China and Asia alight on a particular culture and popularise it why is anybody going to care what dear old tiny industrialised north of the globe thinks, other than those poor cold dears who think the world still revolves around them!

Because of 'lack of better' one could consider allowing himself to be indoctrinated....

More to the point is it possible to 'lubricate your potential'? Oooer Missus!

Not a miss. That is a hit.wai.gif

Refining your taste. Or perhaps i can name it: "an acquired taste".

Similar like red wine

The famous Washington Post annual In-Out list tries to be ahead of the curve. Sometimes their items are indeed debatable. Out can just mean: OVEREXPOSED. For example they are saying Louie CK is out and Hanibal Buress is in. Made me check out Buress. He may be one to watch but I don't see (yet) how his talent competes with Louie CK.

Of course not living in the U.S., many of these items are American-centric or even Washington D.C-centric.

For example, I am very amused by calling Doubling Down out (well deserved!) and Taking it down to Chinatown in, which sounds really retro but funny but I don't see it catching on with expats in Thailand!
