I recently purchased a water filter jug,the brand is brita and theyhave a replaceable filter.

I initially bought it to filter the bottled water which gets delivered in the large 15 litre bottles to the house.

My question is do you think i could use it to filter the government tap water and make it drinkable

Such filters on jugs will probably only filter out particulate matter and not as useful as an in-line system. The manufacturer should be able to provide filter efficiency data.

Tap water where? Most tap water is treated to be drinkable.

tap water in hua hin,if it is treated to be drinkable, why don't the thais drink the tapwater?

Mostly because they have traditionally used filters (very few use more that that is places like Bangkok were treated water has tested as good or better than bottled for many decades) but have no knowledge of Hua HIn. And now it is fashionable to use bottled water; and fashion rules. If you already buy bottled water would not expect it to need further treatment.

I live in central Hua Hin, and I have no idea where the municipal supply originates, but there is a LOT of BROWN matter in it, which doesn't lend confidence to drink it. The two-phase (ceramic, charcoal) countertop filter at the kitchen sink which I used to use in Bangkok and Pattaya for three or four monhts before changing, only lasts about 30-days in Hua Hin. And, the ceramic filter is coated with a slimy brown goo. sick.gif

I mainly use the filtered water now for cooking or making coffee, and then I boil it for at least a minute. I'd be delighted to have my white T-shirts come out of the laundry being white, again.

thanks for the feedback,i have been getting the large 15l bottles delivered to house,i noticed that sometimes the inside of the bottles had a green tint to them,i also had lower back aches.I started filtering the bottles and found the water tasted better and i also had no more lower back aches.

I think i'll avoid drinking/filtering the local govt water.
