1 - I have a couple of mates from Oz here in Thailand who will write stat decs for my partners visa application to Oz. I'm a little unsure as to who can witness it for them. Is it the same as the people on the list as if they were writing it in Oz? (JP's, Police, teachers, postal workers etc)

2 - Can anyone explain exaclty what consitutes a 'certified copy'? I am aware that all copies of 'things' need top be certified by certain people. Does this mean a simple signature on the copy, or is there a specific stamp that is required?

Regards

You didnt state which visa your are applying for but will take it as a spouse visa.

A stat dec requires a JP's or a Commissioner of Declarations signature.

A certified copy is one where the original and the copy are taken to a JP or CoD and he stamps it and signs it as being a true copy.

I am not sure who can sign it in Thailand...perhaps another member can help out.

It does not work the same in Los.

Having a lawyer witness and sign it means bugger all.

For certified copies to be used at the Oz embassy, they only accept these witnessed and copied at the embassy consular section. Keep in mind that they now charge a fortune for this, I cannot remember the figure, but it is a lot.

What I did was when last in Oz, i took many copies of various documents with me and had them witnessed in Oz and the standard police station. She was not impressed signing 50 copies of stuff, but that is part of their job alas.

If you can wait a little while, get your friend to do the stat dec in Oz and send it to you.

If you need translations done, these are sent of to the Thai ministry for stamping, I think 200baht from memory.
