Falun Gong And China

Featured Replies

Okay, I will assume that most people here know about the Falun Gong or Falun Dafa and that the Chinese government wants these people shut down, and that's putting it nicely. I know that the Chinese government has tried to get American officals to hamper the establishment of Falun Gong here in the states.

So, is China right in wanting to shut these people up, or is this violating human rights?

Has China tried to strong arm any other countries besides the US?

If China is willing to strong arm the US, what will they do to weaker countries, especially those that enter trade agreements with them?

Is Falun Dafa getting big in Thailand or not?

And whatever questions I forgot to ask.

Of course I've heard of Falung Gong. Vancouver has a very large Chinese community (lot's of great restaurants :o .

How ever, it doesn't appear that Falun Gong is much of an issue there. I notice huge crowds though at the various Chinese Buddhist temples when ever I go there. :D

There are rumours that the Chinese government has planted agents in various western communities, to spy on such happenings, but I don't think they can exert too much influence on the various governments though.

Especially Western governments. Imagine if Canada, Great Britian, the USA or another western democracy tried cracking down on a group like this ? The press and the people would eat them alive.

They wouldn't be able to keep it a secret either. Somebody would blab eventually, and that would be enough to bring down which ever government was in power at the time.

Thanks Kerry, i didn't think anyone would respond to this thread. :D Maybe I just didn't ask the right questions? :o

The whole reason I was curious was that someone handed me a DVD of some of the things going on in China concerning the Falun Gong. I had only heard about them and didn't know what the Chinese government was trying to do. So, I was curious what other people might of to say on the issue for the DVD was completely against the Chinese government. I wondered if they were going over board in their efforts to inform the world or if China has truely decided to try and shut them down. I also wondered why. I know the Chinese Emperors always had problems with religious groups, so I thought that maybe the Red Emperors of today might be just jumpy, or has the Falun Gong really done anything to give them a reason. I assume that Falun Gong practitioners are peaceful and are just victims of communist repression. I am not surprised.

I've heard that in China, the government cracks down on them pretty hard. Some say it's because they are practising a form of religion, others say it's because they are "revolutionary".

I think the real reason is that the government doesn't control them, and are therefore wary of them. Falun Gong (was) gaining popularity quite rapidly for awhile and the government saw it as a potential threat.

Haven't heard too much about them in the news lately though. Perhaps it was a fad that lost momentum and simply faded away...................

Well, with all the people being beaten on this DVD by the Chinese government one would think will keep their heads down. The practice seems to have moved out of China and is growing with overseas Chinese as well as the local populations. I know that many communities are trying to get Falun Gong members out of China. I also know that they Chinese governemt will also give non-Chinese pratitioners a hard time as well. They roughed up some British when they found out that they were all Falun Ging pratitioners. So, the gov really does like to such an extent they are willing to cause problems with other governments of the treatment of guest in the country. This roughing up by the way happened right in the airport.
