Need A Quality Dentist

I need to find a good quality dentist to replace a crown thats just shattered and fallen out - it was only a 'temporary' one that I've had for 8 years - hehe

So now i need to find a good quality dentist to fix me up with a good quality crown, i don't mind the cost, within reason, as i do understand the higher quality the crown, the longer it will last.

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a good Dentist in Bangkok?

I've been happy with all the dentists there and don't have any particular names.

It is not the cheapest place but the quality is first rate.

Dr. Sun does mostly crowns and bridgework but it happens she does fillings for her regular patients. You can just tell the receptionist that you want her as your doctor and there shouldn´t be any problems.

My case: a broken front tooth, temporary crown put in, and was suppose to continue the work. But the dentist I used turned out to be terrible. Won't go into details. I had three sessions with her, and each one got worse.

Anyway, so now I need to get this fixed, and given its my front tooth, I want it done properly. The experience with first dentist above has obviously added to my worry of ending up with another bad one (she wasn't cheap either).

Hope someone can recommend a place....I've done some initial google, and am hoping to get opinions, experiences people have had at below list, or any other. While I want good, professional and hygiene work done, especially given its my front tooth and hence the aesthetic will be important, I want to find a place that is reasonably priced. Achievable I hope?

I've only ever been to Bumrungrad. Always been happy. Nothing major though, only scale and polish. Only go because I like them as a hospital, and wasn't sure where else. Kept going after first time was OK.

I would second Sheryl's suggestion. But they should take an imprint of your teeth and a photo as well before making the crown.

I had this done in the UK at a very good clinic and the cost was equivalent to around 100000 Baht.

The best dentists aren't cheap but my crown and root canal work is still good ten years later.

Edit: You better give up the chocolates though.

Can't do better than the Dental Hospital on Soi 49. Consistently high quality work.

They'll walk you through the options regarding the crown.

If by any chance you were thinking of tooth whitening, do it before you get the crown so they can match the color.

No, they are different. It's the second one.

When you go for the cleaning tell them you don't want the fluoride application as sometimes they do it automatically -- will save some baht. (it helps prevent cavities but by the age of 30 or so that's not a big concern any more, so no need for it).

I can highly recommend Dr. Suivimol at dental hospital. She is a US trained operative dentist and does filling only. My father was a dentist so I have a good feel for those who are good.

Heard good things about Dentalis at Vejthani, but ended up going to Bangkok Oral and Dental at Amarin Plaza, it was close to where I was at. While prices for some services were high they didn't over sell and I got out fairly cheap. Saw Dr. Daeng and liked her.

Then i was sent to another dentist to do the crown, he said i would need 3 sessions but got the work completed in 2 sessions. He was a little rougher than the root canal lady and did cause some minor discomfort - but considering what he had to do i guess i can forgive him.

The final price for the re-work on the root canal and the ceramic&metal crown was in the 40k ballpark.

They did lots of x-rays and analysis on my mouth and have listed a shopping list of work they 'recommend' however if i were to go ahead with what they recommend i would need to shell out another 150k - which is a little over what i want to spend - lol

(2 impacted wisdom teeth, 1 possibly 2 more root canals with crowns and some minor fillings, removing some stains that i have lived with for a long time etc)

These guys are not the cheapest option out there, but i felt they did a good job, had a good 'bedside manner' and seemed very professional.

I might need to go get the Wisdom teeth out, one has just punctured the gum (its grown horizontal not vertical) and its quite sore!

Best take care of those wisdom teeth now while it is still an elective procedure. Serious pain and possibly more extensive treatment and expense lie ahead if you delay too long.

Stains are obviously just a cosmetic issue and if you don't mind them, no need to do anything. Minor fillings if they are just replacements of existing fillings that are loose, you will need to do eventually but can wait on.

If you have problems severe enough to warrant root canal in 1-2 more teeth though I would not put that off for too long.

In the many years I have been going to the Dental Hospital and bringing family there, I have found that when I ignore things they say need to be done (as opposed to "could do if you like" or "will eventually be a good idea") , in the long run it becomes unavoidable and costs more.

I went to the Dental Hospital a couple of years ago and would NOT recommend them. They were nice enough and clean enough and painless enough but I had full dentures done and they never fit right. The dentist readjusted them enough, but they were never right. I think they made a mistake making the mold of my mouth and then it was too far off. Now if that happened I would demand that they start over and do it right. The dentist should have realized this and started over.

They were expensive for Thailand and expensive is not a guarantee of good.

I find the posters in this part of the forum to overrate the quality of care here in Thailand. Just another man's opinion. If you want "top notch care", you will need to fly out of the country. It is like comparing Rafael Nadal to some hack tennis "pro" in Thailand. If you are ok with that, great, just don't call it "top notch".
