newsjsWith the continued increase in tourism in Thailand, the Transport Ministry is considering the expansion of Utapao to become the third major airport for Thailand after Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports and with the growing popularity of Pattaya and the Chonburi region, Utapao is considered to be the ideal gateway to the region for tourists, relieving the congested capital airports and making travel to and from the region easier.

Anything that improves the infrastructure serving Pattaya is a good thing.

On the contrary. The infrastructure for getting to Pattaya is already very good. Any improvement to it would just result in more people arriving, and the local infrastructure cant even cope with the numbers that are here at the moment. So getting here should be made more difficult, not easier.

The road from Pattaya to BKK airport is perfectly good, but the traffic that uses it is a ******* nightmare. I'd much prefer to be driving in the other direction to a dedicated Pattaya airport. As for the local infrastructure not keeping up.....Pattaya has exploded from nothing to it's present size in less than 50 years. The more tourist money rolls in here, the better it gets. Who cares if it's dollars, euros, roubles or yen, as long as they come and spend it here.

I'd say the more money rolls in the worse it gets. It was a far better place to be 20 or 30 years ago than it is now.
