So I am wondering if I want to ship my laptop to Thailand from Canada will they try try to charge me tax for it or anything and what is the best service to get it shipped ? Thanks

So, by far the best option is to carry it with you. Any other means is a lottery.

If you must ship it, don't use one of the courier services (FedEx, DHL etc) to do so guarantees that it will be assessed for duty. The duty payable is determined by Thai customs and should follow the codes (there's a customs site that lists the rates) but you will get VAT and various courier fees (storage etc) loaded on top too.

If you use one of the tracked and insured regular post services (from the UK it would be 'International Signed For') there is a good chance that it will get through with no duty and if it does get assessed you'll only pay the duty and no 'extras'.

so you want to ship it from canada,take crossy's advice and mine carry it with you or you might end up telling them to throw it in the dock.

I sent one to the wife regular post while i was in the US she had to pay 1000 baht when they dropped it off . Sent two with my personal goods a few years ago no tax at all .
