Valentine's Day

Featured Replies

Just had a ride round town to see if anyone was doing anything special for valentine's Day...

got met with blank looks at the restaurants when I asked!

Anyone know of anything happening food wise

so i can take my sweetie out for a treat?

David

I cooked myself ox heart last night...smile.png

does your sweetie like chocolate?.........and I dont mean eating it.

now that everyones imagination is running riot, cheesy.gif pm me, and can suggest another option for treating your sweetie to some indulgence on valentines day.

I'd also like to know if any restaurants are doing anything... even if it's just some basic decorations or something (which I found easily in Phuket) and some sappy music, it'll make it feel like V-tines day for her and that's pretty much what I'm after.

Or Even Le Beaulieu on Chiang Mai Land?

I can't wait for Valentines this year.......it's gonna be the best one yet...

United v Madrid on the tv.......you can't beat that!

This is revealing in the lack of answers! I long suspected that although Chiang Mai has a reputation as a gourmet's paradise, the only people who comment on here about the food

are Americans, over and again promoting the same few American, or American owned

restaurants ad infinitum, and whom never venture out and try anything else on offer!

The bottom line is that Thais don't really care about Valentines Day. It is a Western concept. I have heard countless [funny] stories from friends married to, or in long-term relationships with Thais about the reactions from their partners to Valentines Day gifts, gestures and so forth. The last time I gave a Valentines Day gift about 7 years ago to my partner, she was absolutely furious that I spent so money on flowers when as she said "you can get flowers for free in Thailand". Apparently I also picked the wrong color reserved for Chinese funerals. She left them behind and I threw them in the bin the next day.laugh.png

Save the money.

Treat em mean keep them keen.

No to Valentines day.

Valentine's day.

Must be a horrible thing to be lonely, old, grumpy, and unable to afford living in your own country.

Have a moment and read my reviews ..you will find a good mix there of restaurants :-)

While I generally agree with this concept, I've been together with my gf for about 18 months now and she's wanting to try western things more and more. She too would probably whack me over the head with them if I spent money on flowers, nor does she want a gift, but food always seems to be the exception. Maybe I skrewed the pooch when I took her out to a decent restaurant on v-tines day dinner last year... nothing over the top or expensive, but the beachside place in Phuket did red & white balloons & heart decorations and there was sappy music playing and she deemed it "lomantic". Now I've got to try to find a decent place to take her that'll simulate that experience... of course if it's an expensive place, she'll say its wasteful spending and wont feel good about going, so it cant be 4000 per person. Still, she asks for very little overall so I am trying to put forth some effort to find somewhere to take her.

That is totally reasonable. Maybe someplace like Palaad Tawanron. It has a nice view. Have a nice time!

Sorry. As the URL has spaces in it the link got broken when posting from my mobile. Just cut and paste the whole link through to the .pdf and it should work.
