The Solong did not make a single course correction for hundreds of miles, just auto-following another route so if they did intend to hit the tanker it was a magical bit of navigation especially as there were at least half a dozen other vessels at the same anchorage. More than likely the watch keepers fell asleep, although they would have had a compulsory alarm system to regularly wake them up, if not deactivated. The captain could well have been off-watch and elsewhere in the accommodation although the responsibility is ultimately his. -

Was that you in Chiang Mai? I believe I told you to ****-off and mind your own business. It's amazing how many times we are told that "Thailand is a conservative country and shirtless farangs and farangs peeing outdoors is the end of the world as we know it." I don't know how many times I've seen shirtless Thai guys in Chiang Mai and elsewhere in the LOS including my own village as well as seeing some Thai guy on the side of the road taking a whiz half the time I get in a car and go anywhere. Thailand is a conservative country as far as dress. Actually it was forced down their collect throats by men with guns who insisted that "The West Is Best!" and "you WILL change your clothes to Western, Christian-inspired, moralistic attire - or else!" -

All planned, or just the way it turned out ?
I saw some pictures of Wat Arun in a UK magazine. I had never seem anywhere so exotic, and I wanted to go there. I hardly knew where Bangkok was then and had never been farther from UK than a day trip to Paris Almost by accident I got a job that landed me in Singapore, then some local leave and train to Bangkok. No w 50 yrs on, a Thai wife and house in Phayao, I still marvel at the colour and exoticness of the Temples and so glad i followed my dream to Bangkok -

Trump’s Final Term Ends in about 1400 days on January 20th, 2029. If he keeps up his current pace the US and the world will be a very different place in 2029, possibly a post-nuclear-war apocalyptic pile of radioactive waste. At least that would put an end to the AN trolling epidemic! Always look on the bright side of life (Monty Python)
