Survival rates depend on the stage at which breast cancer is diagnosed, not on the country the patient lives in. A Thai patient, if they seek treatment fro ma qualified doctor, will have the same odds of survival as a western patient whose cancer was diagnosed at the same stage of progression. Unfortunately Thais tend not to go in much for screening and also often ignore early signs, leading many to be diagnosed late, for all types of cancer, and that throws off the survival rates. But if looked at by stage it is the same.

As your friend is just now going for mammogram, she has not yet been diagnosed with breast cancer. As the majority of breast masses are benign, hopefully her fears will prove unnecessary.
