I have a 6am long haul next week and want to spend the preceeding night near the airport, there's nothing too interesting in the pinned list so I wondered who knows what's good and where, near Swampy?

Thanks in advance

Look on asiawebdirect.com and input lad krabang or airport area it might come under. Some nice cheap - expensive ish hotels in the area and will organise your transport which is 5 minutes to the terminal door.

I have stayed at Thong Ta 3 times...good value for money & free transfers to/from airport. I just stayed at Plai Garden 3 nights ago. It was also very good value & had an excellent free shuttle. Both places have nice rooms, but Thong Ta has no elevator. Both places are really only good for transit hotels, as there is not much around but 7 eleven's & a few food stalls. I booked both through Agoda for around $20US single with free transfer & no breakfast as I had early morning departures.

We just stayed at the Aranta Airport Hotel.

Cost: B1,100 as a last minute booking including one way transfer, but without breakfast (not a problem due to our early take-off and the Miracle Food Court)

Room: Nice, clean and freshly built. Doubt it will look good in 2 years, but for now a nice room. Cable TV with limited channels (the standard package), air-con, nice view of the pool and the nearby canal (nice, not built up and dirty).

Staff: This was the biggest downside. The lady who was on reception for the first part of the stay had ZERO interpersonal skills. We speak "polite" Thai (not perfect, but presentable) and this had NO effect on her. Her answer to any issues was dismissive.

Pool: Looked lovely but it was raining the whole time.

Transfer: 10 minutes, nice driver with some English spoken.

We would happily use the place again. Like all the airport hotels there is not a lot to do locally. The Paseo mall (usual 2 story Thai affair) has a Scoozi, KFC, MacDonalds, 2 good Thai restaurants that only have Thai names so I can't give more details, S&P, Tesco Express and some more stuff. The mall is a 10 minute walk with no crossing bridge. Bar that it fitted our purposes very well.

The website photos do not do justice to the views. I would say that the pool side rooms aren't better value at all. There is a lift so the upper floors are perfectly acceptable and offer better views of what is a surprisingly nice, quiet, area.

We would like to warn visitors (we have lived in Bangkok for 6 years) that the soi is semi-industrial. We have learnt over our time in Thailand to ignore this. If you are prepared for this fact you will be pleasantly surprised.

The same applies with inputting Lat Krabang to Agoda.

The area is close to the airport but purely a place to relax before or after a flight. Not a destination and semi industrial.

Check out the hotels on Agoda via reviews on Trip Advisor.

You pay your money and take your choice but the Lat Krabang area is very close to the airport and a great place to get

some sleep before or after a flight for a budget price.

I use Silver Gold Garden, about five or ten minutes from the airport, with free shuttle van both to/from the hotel.

I book via sawadee.com and the rate is usually B650/night, but sometimes it can be B750 or B850 if it's a busy time and/or they are almost full.

The hotel is clean, wake-up call is reliable, and there are Tesco Express and 7-11 stores out front for beverages and snacks. I've stayed there at least 10 times, and have always felt safe and welcome.
