Travel During Songran 11-16Apr Where To Go?

Featured Replies

Ok don't want to be in Bangkok over the silly season and with the Electricity problems Bangkok will have at that time

would appreciate suggested cheap routes to go for quick trip out (places I don't need visa would be good ) eg. TPE, KUL, MFM, SIN etc.

Leave for KIX tomorrow via Air Macau but even they don't have prices like I paid months ago.

I don't see any specials at the moment via dohop or kayak, am I too early or too late?

Thanks in advance

I assume you are are Australian.

Air Asia - BKK/SYD return, approx THB16,000 - air fare & taxes.

Sri Lankan Air to Dubai return, sale fare till 28 February.

Various airlines - Bali or Hong Kong

internal (bus/rail) travel in Thailand will be heavily booked in advance, keep that in mind if you have plans within LoS. AA

Not sure why you have to go so far. Avoid the major cities and tourist areas and you'll be fine. We're south of Pattaya and other than a bit more traffic, it's business as usual. And yes, I avoid Pattaya like the plague.

We did get caught up in the festival in Ban Amphur. People blocking the road dancing and drinking, loud music. A guy came up and wanted to do one of those "lucky" drawings with some flower. He knocked on my window, and politely asked if it was OK. We said OF COURSE!! Another guy came over and handed me a beer. Drank the beer at a restaurant on the beach, went a different way home, and that was the extent of our involvement with Songkran.

Pretty much the same thing every year. What about places like Ao Khanom? Beaches north of Surat Thani? Quiet beaches in Chantaburi?

Yes Australian,

BKK-SYD bit further than I wanted to go, don't really need to go home for anything. :) (Brizzy anyway)

Normally I go Bang Saen but I must be getting old it's just too crazy for me now plus

the power I fear will be an issue April (underground cables cut Malaysia somewhere) Thailand will be in trouble soon that's why I'm looking OS.

Macau used to be cheap now not. I'll keep looking.

off topic but: I'm still trying to find Air Macau checkin online web flight to KIX

if anybody knows if they have online checkin please send me link.

Actually i like staying in BKK during Songhan as BKK turns into a large town traffic wise, just like it was 30 years ago. A lot of the population heads home for the break and that is why i would not contemplate travelling within Thailand at that time, especially on the roads. But i should add i do do stay away from Lower Sukhumvit and Khao San Road at the best of times . I am just too old and grumpy for water fights and trying to tolerate d*ickhead falungs.

I have been trying to follow about the electricity shortage during Songhan but i cannot work out if it will only be

BKK that is affected or other parts of Thailand as well .

If there really is going to be a severe electrical shortage during the first two weeks of April, there might also be a severe travel problem. Remember you need power to get the fuel from the tanks to the car, bus or airplane that you will be traveling on.

yes I didn't think about that but... don't airports have seperate power supplies and generators?

Thanks Xen "Too Old and grumpy" lol me to! Yes not an Image I like to see of farang at that time either.

Another reason to be OS not have to turn on the box and see it all on every channel.
