Taking The Boy Back For A Holiday

Featured Replies

My parents have offered to pay for me to take my son back to the Uk for a holiday so he can meet everybody.

He doesnt have a passport yet English or Thai, he is only 1year and 4 months.

I want to leave this month hopefully and stay in the Uk for about 1 month, is it easiest for me to obtain a thai passport rather than an english passport then get him a visa?

Would be grateful for any information regarding this, and how long it is likley to take.

I went back with the wife 2 years ago and obtained her visa on the same day, but she already had a passport. Can neone tell me what sort of time period this will take, i live in Trang in the South so dont really want to be doing too many trips to bkk if necessary.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

If your son is a Dual Thai/UK citizen, then he can obtain both Thai and UK passports.

For British passports, see Consular Birth Registration and Passorts Services. Birth registration is not compulsory, but they recommend it.

For Thai passports, you and your wife need to take him in person to one of the passport offices with the required documentation. One parent can go with the appropriate written consent from the absent parent. You should phone to ask them what is required.

If he holds a Thai passport only, then he would need to get a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode placed in his Thai passport by the British Embassy for unrestricted entries into the UK. See Right of Abode.

Provided you have all the required documatation, it takes about 3 working days to process a Thai Passport, about 7 working days for a British passport/Consular Birth Registration and about 3 working days for the Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode.
