There are several established dance schools and many smaller groups in Chiang Mai. It would help to know how old your daughter is and what kinds of dance she likes. Did she come up in a particular system?

As a long time dance dad whose adult daughter now teaches a few hip-hop dance classes a week somewhere off Huay Kaeo, I would recommend finding a studio that teaches both ballet and more modern styles such as hip-hop, lyrical, and modern. The studios that only teach ballet tend to be pretty snooty, missing the boat, and when the dancer gets more advanced, going "on point" should be seen as cruel and unusual punishment on both your daughter's feet and on your medical bills arising from potential damage to the footsies. But the first few years of ballet before they go on their toes is fundamental and makes for the best hip-hop, lyrical, and modern dancers. And remember, tap is the real crowd pleaser in the bunch.

Hi Johpa,

Please could you tell me where I can go ballroom , swing or salsa/latin dancing in Chiang Mai? A dance studio is fine also. I need all the lessons I can get!

Only here til beginning of April and I usually dance 3-4 times a week. Going bonkers here looking!

Thank you,

Sheila
