I thought it was timely, before the end of the Six Nations, for us all to take the opportunity to pay credit to our own favourite royals, and hopefully build up a bit of credit with those that reign over us.

Locally, our host King Bhumibol Adulyadej deserves credit for his selfless commitment to the good of the country, and his encouragement towards a "Thai Way" based on self-sufficiency, while still demonstrating his own capabilities as a sportsman and a musician - surely encouraging every Thai youngster to strive to serve the Kingdom professionally and economically, culturally, and diplomatically on the international stage.

But let's for a moment cast the spotlight with a slightly wider focus. Many of us are blessed with Royal Families whose members are also worthy of praise and gratitude. I am sure that I speak for all the Britons on this forum when I express my gratitude for Queen Elizabeth's discrete reign over the United Kingdom and many commonwealth realms - her forbearance and tolerance of the numpties that we have seen fit to foist upon her as prime ministers is surely a lesson to us all in patient tolerance - if only we could all suffer fools so calmly and politely.

But of her offspring, none for me can compare to the Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, Her stoic support as patron of the Scottish Rugby Union surely must be an example to nobility everywhere that no duty should be shirked - no matter how painful.

Let us hope that on Saturday Scott Johnson and his boys can repay her loyalty with a demonstration that republicanism is not the way to go in their game against the French

I lived in a queendom all my life which has been rules by hms. queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

If i knew i would tell you what good for the country she has done. Coming from generation X i have difficulty understanding how my Monarchy actually works.

In Thailand His Majesty the King is profoundly respected and much more honoured. In comparison to the Dutch Kingdom. So therefore i admire Thailand as a Dutchman.wai.gif .

Americans have our royalty as well.

As a native Philadelphian, I can offer my admiration to:

Royal eating and consuming exorbitantly is indeed what American people hail!

We also have our J.A.P.s ...

Good you understand i am stereotyping. I tried monotyping once but that was just too boring.

Our monarch's primary role is to throw out the government offered by parliament, should she disagree with their recommendation, or to refuse to sign into law their suggestions. She is the last resort of common sense, should our democratic processes fail. She is our :"Aye - piss off and come back without the ridiculous moustache" lady'; Perhaps such a decision would provoke a civil war, and the Queen;s job, for which she has been trained from birth, is to decide if that is necessary,

That is indeed her role officially. But i suspect her decisions are being influenced. Starting with the intelligence she is given is not 100% the truth. This information i am talking about will suit the bankers and the industrialists more then the common people.

In my opinion..

We of course have our own King Billy in Scotland....the great man even opened the door of the local tobacconists for me once in the Granite city.

I responded by reading his autobiography....alrhough I believe much of it was done by his wife. No matter....was an entertaining read nonetheless.

The Queen Elizabeth is a fine example of how to rule with dignity.

Just wish she would smile more often....my granny manages it and she is 89....maybe she drinks more whisky right enough.

But the point is that she watches Eastenders and talks to her gamekeepers....I really think that the Queen serves a vital purpose and that our Elizabeth remembers that. I'm not sure that our Charles rememebers that his most important job is to start a civil war to overthrow the elected government - he is our :"right to bear arms..."

Picturing her now chatting about last night's episode of Eastenders with her gamekeepers.

Sad thing really, Lady Diana would have been one mighty good queen. She drew respect from the people. She did it herself.

My opinions of the USA has been conditioned nicely by the media and now i think next to hamburgers, guns are considered more holy then any royalty by the Americans.

Our Liz is without doubt a top monarch. comprable with any regent anywhere in the world,

My worry is that sometimes we forget the role of our monarchj ahd the irrecoverable consequences should she be forced to exercise that authority\

... and she did with Australia's duly democratically elected government.

As Queen of Australia she decided, enough is enough and, working through her then representative, Sir John Kerr on the 11 November 1975

summarily dismissed the Government, marking the climax of the most significant constitutional crisis in Australian history.

From the OP. "But of her offspring, none for me can compare to the Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret"!! Really! And there was me thinking that was her sister! Oh dear, you are obviously looking for a knighthood with your Hans Christian Andersen view of British Royalty, but i fancy that has just gone out the window after an elementary blunder like that! Get up off your knees man!
