Khon Kaen During Songkran

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'll be arriving by air in KK on April 12th and was wondering what's the public transport situation like during Songkran festival? Will it be relatively easy to flag down taxis/tuk tuks between the 12th -15th as I've heard most don't work and spend this holiday period with family...

Thanks in advance! :)

J

The only problem with getting around is the streets are jammed with people partying, traffic just doesnt move. Better to stay around your hotel and walk everywhere. Get a good plastic bag for your wallet, camera, and phone, the minute you step outside you will be soaked.

You will have no problem getting from the airport, just getting close to your hotel will be the problem if you are staying in the city as the main streets are closed to traffic, good luck Khonkean is fun for songkran.

Pretty chaotic down town.

Huge traffic jams starting early.

You are not dosed with water anymore, but hosed down.

Good fun for some, and total over-kill for some.

Most impressive is the fact that some people are able to stay with the buckets or hoses for hours and hours. And it seems like the fun never ends.

How many times can you hear the exactly same joke, before you dont find it funny anymore?

Amazing stuff.

Enough of that,

Almost impossible to get public transportation in the evening/night.

Revision: If you arriving on the 12th you should be OK -- Departing on the 15th on any of the 4 flights per day flights other than the 8:45 AM flight from anywhere in downtown KK will be an effort.
