Some schools present a long contract before the start of the semester.

Other schools never get round to a written contract. (I was hired by e-mail

from a director once).

Some schools take care of the WP, a teachers' license and Immigration matters.

Other schools have all their foreign teachers work on T Visa and never bother with

other rules and regulations either.

When would the 2nd shoe drop?

Turns out, the school wouldn't give me a contract!

I quit. And they never paid last month's wages.

  • A Thai called the Region xx Education Dept. They have their own lawyer. The lawyer was asked to look into the matter.
  • Yesterday, he reports the school won't pay based on some "contract". <deleted>??!!

Och, aye. Have you been asked to sign stuff in Thai?

It seems that "contract" states that I'm hired month-to-month. Hope to get a copy one day - or the unpaid wages.

You usually sign a contract in Thai and one in English.. How could you not want to have one in English? I don't think that a contract hired from month to month does exist for foreigners.

I guess they went to the educational area office, the school belongs to. Don't believe a word they said. Just inform them in the "Thai friendly way" with a big smile in your face, that you'll go to see somebody at the city hall.

There's a place where they'd assist you and get you a lawyer, so I guess they'll rather pay your last salary than having unprotected aeehh..having problems. They're the ones who can loose face, not you. Go for it. wai2.gif

The right place to go will be the labour office. They are there to support you, even if you don't have a WP.

Even in a province like Sisaket, you're able to get assistance from a special department for employees at the city hall. They'll provide a lawyer and it's in their interest that you'll get your money. And it's free for you.

Hope other guys know more about it. Just know that something like that exists. -wai2.gif
