Reports that thirteen soldiers were killed recently by unidentified attackers on the Thai-Burma border were untrue, the Burmese government told the media. According to the government, they were lost on patrol in the forest on the border in southern Ranong Province, the same place where 92 Thais were arrested last year, according to The Nation. Thai army deputy spokesman Winthai Suwaree said on Sunday the Burmese authorities had informed the Thais that the reports were the result of a forest fire. Cracking sounds of the fire heard over the radio were mistaken for gun shots, then radio communications went down.
