Bus Phuket To Bangkok (What Time - How To Book)

Hi Guys,

I would like to go to Bangkok to see my friends for a couple of days during the songkran festival. I'd like to leave tomorrow (10th) or the day after (11th).

What time are the buses from Phuket to Bangkok ? If possible I'd like a VIP one travelling by night... How should I book ? Go directly at the bus station or is there a place in Patong where I can do it in advance ?

Go to the busstation and book asap, it could be very busy.

Main bus station is out near the big SuperCheap. Buses leave in the evening about 17.00 and 18.00. I'd get out there about 16.00 and buy your ticket.

I recommend the "999" bus company. Good drivers, good service, one-floor buses which don't swim on the road like the double-deckers. The buffet for dinner is ok, they wake you up before Bangkok with a hot coffee and snack. I was pleasantly surprised on my last trip to BKK.

I agree, used to take 999 before the cheap airlines were here. 24 seaters, so as comfortable as it gets on the buses as well, 8 rows of 3.

Try and get the last bus at about 7 or 8pm, no point in leaving at 4 and spending half your afternoon on a bus, then arriving in bkk mega early when most people are still asleep. You can go to the station by motorbike to avoid the traffic and they have secure bike parking for 30 baht a day. Not long ago I bused it to bkk then flew back. Caught a shared mini van straight to the bus station to collect the bike and straight home. First time I've arrived in Phuket and not felt cheated by the taxi gimps for a while and didn't take much extra time at all.

A trip on a VIP Bus (like the 999) will cost you about 1000 to 1200 Baht, it's been quite a while ago since I made the journey.

And by the way, I use the buses for sending goods, a Singha Carton costs about 200 to 300 Baht from Phuket to Nong Khai, depending on the weight. And it just takes 21 hours from office to office...

With the parcel delivery, do you have to be on the bus with the parcel, or will they store it for a day or so before you, or someone else, can pick it up? If someone else, who do you give the details of the recipient to?

I also use the bus companies to send freight on occasion - very useful service.

No need to accompany it - generally they need the recipient to show ID when they collect the arriving parcel(s).

Usually best to address it directly to the person who will be going to pick it up, although I have collected on behalf of someone by showing a signed copy of their ID and a scan of the receipt given to the sender.

Normally no problem for them to hold on to it until you can pick it up - but they usually ask for you to collect it on the same day.

Don't get a tuk tuk to the bus station.It will be as much as your ticket to Bkk.

add in getting to the buss and the hassell factor, flying with a low cost plane ticket is a better plan

I might be a little late to reply but there is a resource for that - you don't need to go other end of phuket.

You may check availability or book a bus ticket through Thailand and even Malaysia, pay online or in 7-Eleven, easy.
Theoretically there is even no need to print the voucher (while recommended), all you need is booking code.

Just make sure you pay for the correct date, as changing the date is 80 baht and you will have to go 7-Eleven again.

If you can read thai, you may also try thairoute.com, but it's rather tricky.
