Swede's Split-Second Distraction Triggers Buriram Accident
Single-vehicle rollovers aren’t especially common in Thailand, but there are a few factors that can increase the likelihood of them happening. One major factor is vehicle type. Pickup trucks, which are very popular here, have a higher centre of gravity compared to sedans. This makes them more prone to tipping over in certain situations. Another contributing factor is the condition and layout of the roads. When a pickup hits the edge of the road—especially where there's a drop or a soft shoulder—it’s very easy for the vehicle to roll. The typical reaction is for the driver to instinctively yank the wheel to get back on the road, which can tip the truck even more aggressively. What happens next depends heavily on speed and what's around the road—things like lamp posts, trees, or barriers. In the case I’m thinking of, the vehicle struck a lamp post. If the verge had been clearer, or if there were Armco barriers in place, the damage might have been reduced significantly. It's important to remember that most accidents are caused by what’s termed “human error.” That doesn’t mean “stupidity”—it just means that people make mistakes. We all do. It could be glancing at a phone, adjusting the radio, getting distracted by something outside the vehicle, even sneezing. Eating or drinking while driving is also a very common factor. -

Why More Americans Are Choosing Thailand Over Florida for Retirement
The health insurance thing is a biggie. The advertorial says heath care is inexpensive. Well that may be true, but insurance is not If, and it's a big if you can actually get insurance at 65+ it ain't cheap. Compared to your medicare Part B & D take a deep breath If you do get insurance be prepared for a whole host of exclusions We, especially men, women are more pragmatic, think we're immortal until the ravages of age catch up with us. Spend a couple of weeks in a private hospital after a heart attack, and that 'I self insure' thing gets pretty real as you are marched off to the ATM before they release you -

Trump has discussed firing Fed's Powell with Warsh, eyed as possible successor, WSJ says
Shouldn't be long now before the axe falls. Laws are for little people! April 17 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump has privately discussed firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for months and talked about it with former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh, including the possibility of then selecting Warsh as Powell's replacement, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. Warsh has advised against trying to fire Powell, arguing that Trump should let the Fed chair complete his term without interference, the Journal reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. The report comes the same day that Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Powell, whose term as Fed chair expires in May 2026. Warsh served as a Fed governor from February 2006 to April 2011. He was appointed by President George W. Bush. The Journal said the discussions with Warsh took place at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in February, but others close to the president had discussed the matter as recently as March. Trump has not made a final decision about whether to try to fire Powell before his term ends, a matter that would likely be challenged all the way to the Supreme Court. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 stipulates that Fed leaders may only be dismissed "for cause," and Powell himself has said his firing would not be "permitted under the law." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There was no immediate response to Reuters emails and calls to Warsh for comment. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-has-discussed-firing-feds-powell-with-warsh-eyed-possibe-successor-wsj-2025-04-17/
