Advice From Bedlam Boys...

Do you really have to convert to Islam if you marry a Muslim?

There are many mixed couples in the north of Isreal (Jewish/Muslim), and I never heard that people would have to recant their beliefs if they married a different faith.

Observing religious dress if you are in Muslim country helps you to integrate and be accepted in the local community.

I wore a long Kaftan in Egypt for a few days (I was staying with a Muslim family and they made me wear it!) and when I walked about you didn't get the same hassles that you would if you dressed in western clothes. Although, I think that travellers that go around wearing the traditional clothes of the country that they visit look like dicks! (Lunghis in India, are you serious!)

Do you really have to convert to Islam if you marry a Muslim?

You can always marry but if you want the marriage to be recognized by muslim religion the following applies:

If you're a woman marrying a muslim man you don't have to convert.

If you're a man and you want to marry a muslim woman you have to convert.

Ok, I have a dilemma! I am a single-white-female living on Phuket, Thailand ................

And I want advice from the BedlaM Boys. :D (Be kind pleaaaaase!)

a) the great love of my life lives on the other side of the planet and looks like committing at no time in the future. We see each other for 4 mths of the year (for the past 2 yrs). He loves FUN! and adventure as much as he loves me. He is a Latino!

:D I am very fond of an executive chef who has been my good friend (and occasional lover) for the past 3 yrs. He lives around the corner from me and now wants a permanent relationship ( and children) and that scares me a lot. He is American!

c) Recently, I met a lovely European man - who just so happens to be of muslim-faith, but he is extremely liberal. This gentleman is trying to sweep me off my feet to convince me in committing my charms only to himself. Understandably, I am fighting tooth and nail despite his charms. He is Algerian (and speaks mainly French!)

I feel completely out of my depths here. HELP me guys............!!! (Again, BE KIND!!!!!!!!!!) :o

Easy.

1. Forget the American. American men are loosy lay I have been told, and their cultural incuriousity always make them a boring company in the long run :D

2. The Algerian, is not European, don't get confused here. He is Algerian and also they love to say they are French not to scare the ladies, they really are not. Like the American, you should avoid those types. Open minded but sooner or later, strong "cultural" misunderstanding will show up and those would be much worse than the American.

3. Go with the beach boy type, you can never go wrong with that (see thread on Ladies Forum) :D

just my 2 baht

take the Yank....he is there and he cares......

The latino cant commit after 2 years and who knows what he is doing when away...more than likely the same as you have been doing with the Yank....If he was the love of your life, You wouldnt be seeing the Yank.

The Algerian....forget him...you could be wife number 4....

:o

The Algerian....forget him...you could be wife number 4....

:o

And, that is based on the fact that he is Algerian?

One of my mates (kiwi) married a muslim bird - he had to convert! :o

Please sir I am not a racist....it is based on him being Muslim and it is allowed under Islam to have multiple wives.

it is allowed under Islam to have multiple wives

of course its also allowed to have multiple husbands too!!!

Go for the American. He sounds like a steady type.

After a few months you can go to America, divorce him and take his house and car.

Well, you certainly shouldn't go for any Sweaty-Socks if they were to move you back to their fair land. Incomprehensible accents along with inedible food! :o

I forgot to mention that a woman marrying a muslim man doesn't have to convert provided her religion is recognized by Islam so if she's Jewish or Christian she don't have to convert but if she's buddist, hindu, atheist or whatever she has to convert.

I have two friends, one male, the other female, who married Thai muslims. No conversion needed. It all depends on the individual, their family, and what sect they belong to. Pretty much goes with any religion.

:D That's so funny Lamphun... :D he doesn't have a house and car. But he did discuss buying a house with me tonight :o And he told me he loved me. I know many women would feel elated with this situation but I think I have been independent for too long as I can't comprehend the future anymore. One day at a time I guess....

I think you guys are right about the Algerian. The funny thing is that he came here to find a Thai girlfriend and ......... found me. :D He is very sweet and honest and an adventurous traveller but already has started talking about me giving up drinking alcohol :D and taking me back to his home country :D - run away, run away!!!

And the Latino love of my life, again most of you are right. After 2 yrs, he still can only say "I like you a lot!" :D He loves adventure, he likes me a lot. Enough said.

Thomas Merton and Kayo seem to read my mind, I really do need a break away - island fever and all. I think I might stay single. :burp::D

I think I might stay single. :D:o

Wise decision!!!!! :D

I'm sure whatever decision you make will be a wise one! :D

Good choice, Khall. :D

BTW, you owe us each a case of Chang for saving you from not just one, but three potentially disastrous relationships doomed to end in grief, children and all! SmilewithGlint-Asian.gif

As long as that elephant is strapped with Chang, Tots. :D Haven't seen any elephants down Ratchadaphisek lately but I'm sure it'll be O.K.

What the hey !

Stay single, play the field, enjoy life while you still can. No one says you have to get married (except maybe your parents).

Besides, if you get hitched to one of the 3 you mentioned, regardless of which one it is, you're going to break a lot of hopeful hearts on TV ! :o

You actually have quite a number of things working against you, Khall. First and foremost is that your biological clock is ticking (or is it any longer?). Secondly, once you reach a certain age I'm not sure there will be any more hearts to break. And lastly, please refer to BambinA's latest topic here, entitled, "Do U Fear? living alone till die." That's some scary shit to think about.

In light of the above I should rightly recant my original advice to you and suggest that you find yourself a three-sided coin and hope for the best. Sorry. :o

Hehehe, get all three potential suitors together in the same place and have them play "Rock-Paper-Scissors". Who ever wins the game, wins the dame !

(note the "dame" is not a derogatory term. It refers to a woman who has been knighted by the Queen/King, such as Dame Judi Dench)

No.. a better idea is to get the three of them in the ring and let 'em battle it out.. last one standing gets the honey pot. :D

More fun to watch than rock paper sissors :o

I can see it now; Khall tenderly blotting the blood off the victor's bloated lip. Now that's pure romanticism, Tots! :D Ah, the stuff Hollywood is made of!

Edit: Who's taking bets??

Many who don't know you, wouldn't have believed you were such a siren in real life girl. You have many admirers in the cyber world and have broken hearts with this thread. :o

We all have many facets to our personalities and choose to share each with who those click on the right buttons. :D

I don't sit in my jungle palace 24/7 working and posting on TV (altho you may assume this is the case), I just happen to work on my computer alot and love to stay in touch with all you lot- my mates in the "other" world!

I so value your opinions and so love to laugh with you all. Hope to meet many of you in the future!

In the meantime, I'm staying SINGLE - woohoo!!!!!!!!! :D
