An artillery shell injured two people in northern Shan State earlier this week, the Democratic Voice of Burma reported on Thursday, citing local sources. The casualties – a 17-year-old and a toddler of just 18 months – came on Monday amid fighting between the Shan State Army-North (SSA-N) and government troops over a planned relocation project in Tangyang Township. The rebel SSA-N said government forces invaded their territory after an SSA-N brigade refused to vacate the area, which is slated to host a village for displaced persons and economic development projects.
