BANGKOK, April 22 – Thailand’s Criminal Court today rejected a bail request by Pheu Thai MP/Red Shirt activist Korkaew Pikulthong who was charged with intimidating Constitution Court judges and inciting unrest in the country.

He was immediately whisked away by Corrections Department officials and returned to Lak Si detention centre.

Mr Korkaew's political immunity ended Saturday following the official close parliamentary session. The next session is due in August.

Criminal Court chief judge Thawee Prachuablarb said the defendant earlier told the court that he had not been involved in political activities, but the judge ruled that the defendant’s behaviour did not demonstrate any remorse for his offence and breaching of the conditions set by the court.

He said the court, in considering Mr Korkaew's case, adopted a similar standard as earlier imposed on Red Shirt activist Yossawaris Chuklom, better known for his professional name as a comedian, Jeng Dokjik, who was given the same charges as Mr Korkaew. (MCOT online news)

What nonsense, immunity because parliament is in session. Politicians make laws for everybody else to obey and give themselves an escape clause, personally I hold them to a higher standard.

BANGKOK: -- Criminal Court Monday rejected bail request by by Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader Korkaew Pikulthong, causing him to be sent back to the Bangkok Remand Prison.

Korkaew’s bail was revoked in November on ground that he intimidated Constituition Court judges. He has been released during the last parliamentary session.

Rejecting his bail request, the Criminal Court reasoned that Korkaew failed to demonstrate regret in what he had done.

"In the bail request and the hearing of the 5th defendant (Korkaew), there has been no clear evidence to Court that the 5th defendant regrets in violation of the (previous) bail conditions nor he has done anything to rehabilitate the bad consequences from his conduct. On the other hand, the fifth defendant insisted his conduct was not violation of the court’s conditions," the court said.

He said the court, in considering Mr Korkaew's case, adopted a similar standard as earlier imposed on Red Shirt activist Yossawaris Chuklom, better known for his professional name as a comedian, Jeng Dokjik, who was given the same charges as Mr Korkaew.

Court rejects Korkaew's bail request

BANGKOK, 22 April 2013 (NNT) - The Criminal Court has rejected Pheu Thai party-list MP Korkaew Pikulthong’s bail request to remain on release from Bangkok Remand Prison.

Mr Korkaew was taken into police custody on Monday, where he would be moved to a special prison in Bangkok's Laksi district.

Last November, the Criminal Court revoked Mr Korkaew's bail on grounds that he acted and spoke out in a way considered threatening to the Constitutional Court judges.

Mr Korkaew’s lawyer made known that he would appeal the court’s decision on Tuesday afternoon, saying that last year’s statements were made with no ill intent.

Mr Korkaew, a defendant in a terrorism case related to the political protests in 2010, was released from the Remand Prison during the ongoing parliamentary session. He submitted a new request for further bail release to the court last week.

The court revoked bail for Korkaew on November 30 last year. He was released as he has MP immunity during House session.

Election Commission member Prapun Naigowit said the EC had resolved that Korkaew is still qualified as an MP as he is still a suspect and has not been jailed by the court's ruling.

This is the man who threatened Constitutional Court judges and posted their personal addresses and telephone numbers online, encouraging red shirt thugs to go after them.

I think he did issue a half hearted apology saying he didn't mean the judges any harm but the court obviously found that unconvincing.

There are various reasons for not being able to speak ones mind, independent of being able or not to prove statements. Thai defamation laws are very, very strict. Living and working in Thailand I feel bound by the Thai law, even when there are parts I personally think need 'amendment'.

Furthermore TV being run be a commercial company 'Thai Visa' working / operating in Thailand deems moderation necessary to safeguard their existance and good co-operation with government departments.

If you commit a criminal offence you should not be sitting in parliament while the case is ongoing.
