Why Does It Take Attempted Murder For Local Police To Pay Attention If They Do?

I have a small 6.8 M Tinny moored at Ao Yon much to my disgust I found that the boat had had 3000thb of fuel drained (second time) and one of the marine batteries stolen (3rd time). Thinking it was only me I was well Pi**ed off. Only to learn I was one of 7 boats targeted. I went to Ao Yon with new battery and fuel to move the boat to Chalong to find out that a yacht person asleep round at cape panwa on his yacht disturbed what can only be described as local pirates on his yacht and he was stabbed 7 times . This is maybe hearsay but all the locals know . My Question is what are the local BIB going to do about it???? its not just petty theft now but attempted murder!!!!

Some people learn from things happening to them, others don't.

how do you operate a automatic bilge pump.

i would venture a lock box would not be a big deal to make.

As for the attempted murder, from your account it would seem that has not resulted in any activity either

Apparently it is easy to remove fuel and batteries bah.gif . Since this happened already in the past to the OP, I would expect him to prevent this from happening again. So either remove and visit the boat more frequently, or keep in use and prevent theft.

Or do neither, but don't be surprised at theft in that case.

We recently had 200 liters of benzine stolen from our speedboat in Boat lagoon, right infront of the security office! We fill up at 8pm every night, gate is locked at 9pm and patrolled by guards. 7am gate is opened, 7am i arrive but fuel is gone. What more can i do? Filler cap is locked, im the only one with the key but the pipe was cut off... Gets tiring sometimessaai.gif TITsick.gif

Best advice I was given about owning a boat was "make sure you can put it on a trailer at the end of the day and take it home".

Second thing I was told was "there are only two happy days when owning a boat, the day you buy it and the day you sell it".

Definition of a boat. "A hole in the water that you throw money in to".

Actually, I'd love to have a boat here. Probably the nicest place in SE Asia to own one, but, couldn't handle all the bullshit that comes with it.

Couldn't agree more! We had another saying when yacht racing: It's the same as ripping up hundred dollar bills while taking a cold saltwater shower!

I've had my small boat here for 4 years now, and have a mooring at Ao Yon (same as the OP). I kept her on the mooring for a couple of years, though because I wasn't using her that often, last year I've got her on her trailer outside my house. Apart from the security issues of being on a mooring (though I never experienced any theft), she did sustain some minor but annoying damage from another boat that broke free from it's own mooring. A boat will also markedly deteriorate when on a mooring, particularly in this climate. There is also always the possibility of a storm/rough weather which again puts boats at risk.

For the past year, as I said previously, she's on the trailer outside the house, under a cover, ready to go whenever I want (I put her on a berth at Boat Lagoon whenever I know there's going to be a period of high usage such as when friends are visiting). I don't regret getting the boat, as the pleasure that I've had (and will continue to have) from her has been immeasurable. This is a tremendous area for boat owners, with a rich and diverse options of places to go, away from the tour boats. Ideal if you have like minded friends who contribute to the operating costs (such as fuel) which gets the economics into perspective.

I've read many times on the net that you need a Thai captains cert to drive a motorboat in Thailand (jet ski included)...

Is this just another Thai unenforced (unless they want to) law kinda like red lights and stop signs that nobody pays attention to either???

just wondering??

According to above link, the theives tried to get some bounty off of the Davinci catamaran and there ended up being shots fired by the thieves. Article also mentions the Frenchman being stabbed 7 times and then his boat getting ransacked last night.

I read that article.

In the French guy's case, basically, that becomes an armed robbery.

In relation to the Davinci case, if they fired a gun at them, you could be looking at attempted murder, but I'm sure the gun would be laying on the seabed by now.

I've never given much thought to marine theft here, but obviously, it's happening, and it appears, by some pretty violent criminals.
