Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni in an exclusive interview with Arab News on Monday said the responsibility for solving the Rohingya issue in Arakan State lies with Naypyidaw. The “solution lies where the problem exists, and the solution has to be found within Myanmar,†she said. An estimated 500,000 refugees have fled Arakan State for Bangladesh, following violence against Rohingya there widely described as ethnic cleansing. More than 1,000 Rohingya are thought to have been killed in the state in two waves of violence in 2012. More than 120,000 are thought to have been displaced; many now live in camps.
