A 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit Burma’s Shan State early Tuesday morning, according to a report by the Bangkok-based newspaper The Nation. The Thai Meteorological Department’s Seismological Bureau said the quake began at 3:17 am and lasted several seconds. The epicenter was 29 km north of the Thai border town of Mae Sai, opposite Tachilek in Shan State. There were no reports of injuries or structural damage. An earthquake that struck the same region on March 2011 killed scores of people and could e felt as far away as Rangoon, Bangkok and Hanoi.
