Suranand needs to go: Democrat spokesman

BANGKOK: -- The opposition called yesterday for Suranand Vejjajiva, secretary-general to Premier Yingluck Shinawatra, to resign - if he fails to prove that he did not block a foreign news group from interviewing Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Democrat Party spokesperson Chavanond Intarakomalyasut questioned why Suranand had not come out to clarify the allegation, since interfering with the media is a big issue - and a violation of Article 46 of the Constitution.

The opposition was uneasy about working with Suranand, who intimidated the media. He called on Yingluck to consider taking action against Suranand, saying the PM always stresses the significance of rights and liberty in a democracy.

Earlier, Chavanond said he had evidence to prove the government - through Yingluck's aide Suranand - had tried to stop USA Today from interviewing Abhisit.

He said the evidence came in the form of e-mails exchanged between the newspaper and Abhisit, which clearly showed that Suranand had stopped the interview from taking place. Chavanond said he would submit the evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman.

He said USA Today arranged an interview one month earlier and had scheduled it for 10am last Thursday (May 9). But it informed Abhisit an hour after that time that the paper wanted to urgently cancel the interview - because it had talked with Suranand, who opposed the interview. The paper said it would not receive support from the government if a reporter interviewed Abhisit.

Meanwhile, Chavanond also attacked Noppadon Pattama, a former legal adviser for Thaksin Shinawatra, for issuing a "false" claim to the foreign community, accusing the Abhisit government of being formed undemocratically.

Chavanond accused Noppadon of using his own imagination to make up stories about the Abhisit government. "If he speaks nonsense he will only be laughed at by foreign countries,'' he said.

Once again, the democrats are destined to fail. Why can they not learn from the democratic PTP on how to remove opponents.

To remove Suranand, all the dems need to do is knock out a few hundered red dvd's pointing out that Suranand Vejajjiva is in fact a democrat mole working in cahoots with cousin Abhisit to undermine the red government. It wont be long before he gets a metal pole thrown through his car windscreen in an attempt to kill him. It wont be long before he has his families home adress and phone numbers blasted out from the red stage with orders to intimidate, capture or worse. The DSI will quickly find Suranand's past outrageous crimes such as having the wrong date on some cub-scouts paperwork from 25 years ago, and subject him to further judicial intimidation.

If it doesn't go as planned, perhaps Suranand could be added to some drug "blacklist" and be executed with a drive-by shooting by 2 masked off duty cops. No trial, evidence, no comebacks. Justice, Thaksin style as proved so popular in the recent past.

​Indeed, but why allow the constitution or the law to get in the way of yet another hand bags at 50 paces political cat fight?

Undemocratic and unconstitutional media interference, sadly, is normal in Thailand. Bullying of the media to report 'appropriately' on the tragedy in the south by the army chief or the banning of films of varying genres, pulling of soap opera episodes or televised discussions on lese majeste are everyday fare.

It's good to Thailand's political circus clowns following suit.

After all, what's good for the masses should also be good for the 'elite', yes?

Probably the e/mail from USA Today 1 hour after the interview was supposed to happen, stating that the interview had been stopped at a request from Suranand, read the article.

If what you say is true we shall certainly know for sure after evidence has been produced.As you say, if this is any more than a pile of steaming crap, Western media reports will shortly report on th alleged disgraceful behaviour by the Thai government.On the other hand if the story fades away, no evidence is produced, the Western media remains silent - then we will know the story is gobblededook.We know that the Democrats retain a special hate for Suranand because he is highly capable, smart and above all in their eyes a "traitor to his class", the ultimate betrayal among the Thai patrician class.

Postscript: I forgot of course that if this turns out to be a damp squib, the usual suspects will resort to the normal posture when made fools of - Ah but Thaksin paid them all off to keep silent.

Abhisit didn't form government until more than 2 years after the coup and 1 year after a general election, so I'm not sure why the international news services would be mentioning Abhisit's election results when the coup occurred.

"The Nation strikes again", well one day after the Bangkok Post had already broken the "scoop" but they were bound to be contacted by the democrat party at some point - wonder how they're going to explain this tardiness to the Dem PR department? Curiously enough there is nothing whatsoever in todays BP about this "story" - seems they've lost interest.
