[Myanmar] Us To Help Burma With Energy Transparency

Washington and Naypyidaw reached an agreement this week aimed at increasing transparency in Burma’s energy sector. According to a report by UPI, the US special envoy for international energy affairs, Carlos Pascual, and Burmese Energy Minister Than Htay signed the agreement on cooperation in implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) during a visit to Washington by a Burmese delegation led by President Thein Sein. Last week, Revenue Watch Institute, a transparency watchdog group, named Burma’s natural resource sector the world’s least transparent.
