Domestic Flights: Suvarnabhumi Vs Don Muang?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I will be arriving in Bangkok at the end of August, and after a few days in Hua Hin I will be making my way up to Udon Thani. I will be taking a bus from Hua Hin back to the Suvarnabhumi airport. The plan is to fly through the Don Muang Airport since fares seem cheaper here. However, I have been told that by the time I pay to take a taxi or bus between airports, and consider in the fees added by Nok Air and Air Asia at Don Muang, that I should just go ahead and fly out of Suvarnabhumi with Thai Smile. I have checked prices for the date needed (Sept. 2) and it looks like Nok Air and Air Asia out of Don Muang are only about 750-1200baht, while Thai Smile out of Suvarnabhumi is 2200-2600baht. I would appreciate any opinions about this situation or experiences others may have had. Thanks! wai.gif

Instead of going back to Suvarnabhumi, why not go directly to Don Muang (you would probably need to change at the Southern Bus Terminal) ?

When I arrive in BKK, I will be using a bus (http://www.airporthuahinbus.com/) to get to Hua Hin. This bus will also take me back to the BKK airport--each way is a mere 305baht and it has good reviews, so you can understand the appeal for me. Although, I don't have to take it back. I just know a taxi from Hua Hin to Don Muang would be steep. Are there other transportation options you are aware of that go from Hua Hin to Don Muang that aren't so expensive?

I can certainly understand the appeal, unfortunately I don't have much experience on that route, hopefully someone else will be able to make a suggestion from experioence. If it were me I would explore the following,

- Train to Hua Lampong then underground/skytrain to On Nut then grab a taxi or bus 552

- Bus from HH to Southern Bus Terminal and then the bus 556 to DM

- Depending on the time of day I would expect the taxi fare from Suvarnabhumi to DM to be around bt400-bt500 (from memory), you will still see a saving albeit marginal, and you should plan at least 3 hours or even more to ensure you get your flight, traffic can be bad.

- Get the bus 544 to Suvarnabhumi to Don Muang, again think plenty of time

Hmmm...seems like time and headache would dictate that I just fly out of Suvarnabhumi airport. blink.png
