Since there is a common belief DTAC can legitimately do 3G on their 850 MHz frequency, it now begs the question "why didn't they do it long back ?".

Only thing I can think of is with their concession expiry, it would be better for their ROI to keep the Thai public on 2g and milk the current asset.

True's deal with CAT forced their and the industry to move ahead w 3G

dtac provides 3G on 850mhz since few years already.

Yep, after True started. The kicked and clawed to shut down True, and then turned around and decided to what apparently seems they had the legit right to to start off with.

So... i interpret it as "lets milk 2G for what its worth" - why invest more ?

I don't really understand what you mean?

So before all this so called conspiracy (LOL) started, what prevented DTAC from importing 3G equipment ? Many years back

If you knew anything about the situation. You would know that the concessionaire has to get/give permission for importing equipment. It was not given by CAT.

Also it was interesting to see YOUR comments regarding the conspiracy LoL.

After your comments about True being victimized by Dtac.

Ahhh talking about True pg B2 of Bkk post Business today. True are going to try to set up an infrastructure fund based on the 850mhz 3g network. That's the one that belongs to CAT.. that True use with a grey contract. ummm collusion and conspiracy.. . You decide.

So True dealings with CAT according to you were "grey", but of course the sudden change of heart CAT had to allow DTAC to import 3G equipment was just totally good will on CAT part and above board as western (oops Thai ) companies always are LOL

Thanks - yes I will thoroughly enjoy my 4G and hope you might get it on DTAC in a few years smile.png

Cheers will do my best.

Not sure what was deleted, so here is a recap

1. DTAC did not launch 3G until True started.

2. Obviously (loma) DTAC has the legal right to do 3G now

3. Why did DTAC only push CAT (thaicbr) after True went heavily into 3G, why not years before it ( they could have creamed the market )

4. Why is something when something goes DTAC way with CAT sweaky clean, but when something goes True's way with the same CAT its automatically " corrupt / grey "

So, my hypothesis is

Hypothosis 1- DTAC had the ability to do 3G, but did not want to as with x years left on their concession, it would be better to milk an existing 2G asset, than invest in a 3G asset which would have to transfer in x years.

Follow on hypothesis - if some one else is going full steam on 3G, that's not conducive to the hypothesis 1. As such, one would have a vested interest to a) try to slow down true in this case ( ie. label the True - CAT deal as dubious (sic) ( aka "rent an ajarn"). b ) failing which, lobby hard to issue licenses ( I.e. 2100 MHz ).

Totally plausible

Time to call in the Myth Busters !

Quote from press

"However, Hutchison recently rejected CAT’s request to bring the selling price down from THB7.5 billion to THB4 billion, opening up an opportunity for True Move." ( look it up! so it seems True offered more ? )

But what's that got to do with the topic ?

Fella. If you can't see WHY it's not on topic then it shows your irrational hatred of Dtac goes deep. Either that or your just a troll trying to get the rise out of people .... actually probably both.

The facts are there to be read and understood for those with the capacity.

Reread you're own post above ..Hutchinson had already suggested that 7.5billion was not enough after 2 years of negotiations. Then Cat suggested 4 billion after pressure from the IT ministry. Hutchinson said no. Enter True who secured the deal for 4.35billion one month later. On a personal note I think it was made very clear to Hutchinson that this would be the only offer.

In all of this period Cat was refusing Dtac 850mhz 3g.

Good day. Last I'm posting on this thread.

Quote from public news " Telecom conglomerate True Corp on Wednesday announced the purchase of Hutchison Wireless MultiMedia Holdings in a transaction valued at 4.35 billion baht......Real Move will extend loans of up to 6.3 billion baht to BFKT to help the company clear its outstanding debt."

So lets see, True offers a total package of 10.35 billion Baht, CAT insists on 4 billion, and its so suspicious that Hutch take the True offer ?

Google it !

So why are you so aggressive and anti Thai? Reminds me of Brits in my home country (Oz) who always talk about "back home" where everything is better. Our replies are always " well then go home"

I had a Brit friend who was constantly slagging off Thai's but has lived here for 20 years, really makes me wonder why they live here if they are so pro western and anti Thai.

Finally - the above is still a distract from the main topic " was DTAC milking its asset ?"

Who's anti Thai?

Not me!

I'm anti bullshit.. Especially Bullshit titles.like "was DTAC milking its asset?"

You really don't like Dtac. That's clear.

I use True and Dtac.. True has better 3g coverage because of this deal (but it's just aderquate nothing more). I prefer dealing with Dtac both at shop level and Customer support on the phone. Telecoms in Thailand are a mess.. Business in Thailand is who you are, who you know and how powerfull you are.. You do not get much more powerful than the owner of True. So where is the scam u claim? True coughed up 10.35 billion, CAT offered 4 billion as far as I have researched it

Time to put ur facts on the table, or the previous is technically slander

Cat's original offer was 7.5billion for the company excluding liabilitys. That was not enough at that time for Hutch.. The IT ministry then pressured Cat to offer 4 billion excluding debts. Hutch refused. Then a month later signed a deal with True for 4.35billion excluding debts.

I think it was the fact that it was easier to get THE MONEY FROM tRUE THAN FROM CAT. Cat who have to go back to the goverment for permission.. True didn't.

Any way. I have had enough of this. You enjoy your True (Cat) connection. I really hope that True do actually expand 4g into Thailand it is good for competion. Equal competition (as in all able to provide) is long over due in the telecom segment here in Thailand.Bye
