It gets worse as IN Channel is reporting he had B3,000 in his possession at the airport so was able to take a taxi into Bkk, where he found a German restaurant and used their bank account for his sister to transfer B15,000 to him. Why would a prisoner en route from Australia to Germany have Thai currency in his possession ? He was supposedly arrested outside the German Embassy.

Today he is being taken back to the airport to go through the much loved re-enactment routine which could really embarrass airport security.

He would have recieved resettlement money from the Australian taxpayer which is the norm when Australia deports someone. An amount to cover intial accomadation costs and feed until he can organise something on his own. It is all part of the warm fuzzy caring way Australia treats scum. He spent time in prison and after paroled he was immeadiately transfered to an immigration detention centre.

A testament to the diversity of available cuisine in Bangkok and the helpfulness of the staff working in them.

German escapee rearrested at embassy

30207284-01_big.jpg?1369958465552

BANGKOK: -- A German ex-convict who had given his guards the slip at Bangkok's international airport while being escorted home was arrested in the capital on Thursday, police said.

Police arrested the 25-year-old at the German Embassy in Bangkok, Immigration Police Commissioner Panu Kerdlabpol said. "We had officers waiting for him at the embassy," Panu said.

The man was fined Bt6,000 for illegal entry to Thailand, and is likely to be deported on Friday after he "re-enacts his crime" at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the immigration police commissioner said.

"We have contacted the Australians and asked them to provide another escort to take him to Germany," Panu said.

The German was identified as Carlo Konstantin Kohl.

He had reportedly fled the airport on May 15 through an emergency exit in the transit area, while his escorts, civilian guards hired by the Australian immigration department, slept.

After serving three years of a jail term in Australia for theft, he was put on a Thai Airways International flight from Brisbane to Frankfurt, with a stopover in Bangkok, under guard. It is unclear whether he faces further charges in Germany.

The incident has caused embarrassment at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where authorities have vowed to upgrade their security systems, and in Australia.

Australian Member of Parliament Eric Abetz on Wednesday criticised the two guards hired by the immigration department for sleeping on the job.

Thai officials said they were not informed that a German criminal escorted by Australian guards was passing through Bangkok.

Hardly Australia's problem now they have already deported him. If Australia sends another numskull civilian security officer they will probably loose him on the plane. As he is a German citizen ilegally in Thailand why not ask the Germans to come and get him or don't they want him? Please don't give him back to Australia.

Thailand may just be stuck with him if nobody else want's him.

That makes more sense . . . then my question is why he is released after three years for all these crimes?

Where did he get the money to live in BKK for 2 weeks?

A young man who is willing to engage in amorous activities can easily get some cash, although with a face like his, he might have had to settle for some uggers.

There are plenty of young backpackers who are generous if someone has a good story. Unlike TVFers, they haven't yet become jaded. wink.png

As he previously robbed his traveling companion, I would be willing to take a guess at some other ways he could make some luchre.

Why is the Australian judicial system such a joke? Sorry to answer your question with a question.

This could be too funny. Lose him twice.

cheesy.gif Well to complete the re enactment he will be required to escape.

Would we be surprised if it happened ?

To me the story still remains unclear. A line from the update from The Nation in post #25 reads:

"After serving three years of a jail term in Australia for theft........"

Has he completed his jail time or is he returning to Germany to complete the sentence?

Is he being deported or extradited if this is the case, that the sentence isn't complete?

Haha it's the Australian version of saving face - the Aussies don't want to admit that they've just made an embarrassing blunder. Of course they were sleeping when he walked away from them, as dumb as that was although how do you keep 2 fat old 50? year olds awake all night after a flight that arrived at 2320 Brisbane time and then by the time the next flight was expected to leave it would have been around 11am Brisbane time (which is 3 hours ahead of Thailand local time).

Perhaps you could have said, more accurately, that "Unlike TVFers, they are naive and are not as aware of scams and con men in Thailand" ?rolleyes.gif

Australia doesn't have to save face it is the british security company that have egg all over thier face. It is thier contract that they will be concerned about as other security companies are already starting to win contracts of this nature.

Given that l work in the state run prison system in the land down under and having managed this individual whilst he was in custody without incident, of grave concern to custodial staff across the state of Queensland is the fact that the government is planning to privatise the prison system with Serco being a leading contender for the licence to operate the system. The fact that they have stumbled from one disaster to another, i.e. the torching of the Christmas Island Detention Centre which was run at the time by Serco means nothing to the government. God help the community safety when companies like Serco and GEO assume responsibility for the operation of our prison sytem, where their prime goal is to make maximum profit at the cost of best practice principles..

I love how the Australian immigration chiefs are so confident their guards weren't sleeping. I have never heard of someone being escorted beyond loading them on a plane in a deportation case and in an extradition case it is usually the requesting country who sends reps. to pick them up. The U.S. sent a private jet to pick up Victor Bout.

They weren't Australian Immigration employees they were civilian employees of British company Serco. Civilians do not have the same powers as the police and it wasn't an extradition. There was no extradition order and the courts definately would not place the defendant into the custody of a civilian security company he would be placed into the custody law enforcement.

The guards were Australian employees of the Australian operating company of a group that is owned by a company registerd in Britain. Right? They were chosen as suppliers by the Australian employees of the Australian Immigration department. This Australian operating company also has other contracts from parts of the Australian government. Right? This Australian operating company is also well known for cock ups. Right?

The link you posted to a Perth news report also uses the word "extradite" rather than deported. There is no reference to the German authorities requesting extradition or the German police being involved. The Thai police were not informed of the transition through Suvanhabumi.

The Australian civilian security guards allowed their charge to escape, although what powers they actually had to stop him I don't know.

This looks like one big Aussie cock up.

Do you really believe that all the senior management, executives and staff employed by Serco in Australia are British?? Get real. Serco is registered in Britain, as to ownership, no idea. You'd have to see where the shareholders live. International groups tend to be owned internationally.

Australia screwed up period. The egg is on the face of the Australian security guards and the Australian immigration department.

So it is safe to assume that the German embassy staff informed the police in oder to safe face? On the other hand it is not too difficult to find someone in Thailand. The nature of the state virtually guarantees that they catch anyone if they really want. Half the Thais are after all informing on the other half, only they don't know it from each other.

Near the German Embassy? I am surprised that nobody came up with the assumption, that the diplomaticos refused issuance of diplomatic papers against paying the fees in Aussie jewels then? Hence he got booted out of diplomatic grounds into traffic jammed Sathorn Tai road - ét voilà, the BIBs where able to spot him among all those other aliens and booked him straight away.

Pathetic; in Australia they report that he turned himself in while here he gets a suspended booking for two years for illegal entry. If latter is true then more than a million aliens from neighbouring shores could count for free Fried Rice in the slammers of the Kingdoms.

According to the daily telegraph news from Sydney he handed himself in and wasnt captured by the thai police ,

That explains it, I couldnt reconcile the BIB catching a bank robber and an absconding deportee in the one day, who was collecting "no helmet" baht while all this thief taking was going on?

The Thai suspended sentence for Thai Immigration violations is a formality only. He did enter illegally but someone else wants his arse and the Thai's aren't going to get involved, don't want him here either. The fact that he escaped custody in Bangkok is just coincidence; he could have tried it transiting anywhere, just got lucky here. He was caught near the German embassy. There is a report in some other media saying that he had already been in touch with the German Embassy requesting a replacement for his 'lost' passport but didn't show for the appointment. There's no doubt his 'capture' was aided by the German Embassy since this guy is a convicted criminal in three countries. What were they supposed to do?

The Australian taxpayer. Australia gives them a certain amount when deported.

I have had a bit of trouble sleeping. I might see if I can get one of those jobs.

We hired a night time security guard and he turned up on the first night with a pillow! When asked he said it was so he could sleep comfortably. When it was made clear he was expected to GUARD, he quit! 9000 a month to sleep?
