NARATHIWAT, June 6 – No one was wounded by two bomb explosions in the southern border province of Narathiwat on Wednesday night.

Police gathering evidence Thursday morning found the remains of two Claymore-type bombs at two locations. Claymore anti-personnel mines weigh about 5-7 kilogrammes . The devices used last night were remote-controlled and detonated by digital wrist watches, police said.

Surveillance cameras at the scenes did not capture images of the suspects as light was dim in the area. Investigators initially believed that the suspects are the same group of insurgents, active in Sungai Kolok district. (MCOT online news)

Lone man robs KBank in Bangkok Yai District

Bangkok, 6 June 2013 (NNT) – Bangkok Yai District police has reported a robbery of a Kasikorn Bank located on Jarunsanitwong road in its Wat Tha Phra Sub-district. The suspect managed to escape with 70,000 baht cash.

Upon the arrival of the police, Miss Veeraya Wattananimitkul, the bank's clerk who was in the crime scene said that the suspect was wearing a black cap, yellow sweater, a pair of jeans, black slippers, and a backpack.

According to her, the robber pretended to be one of the customers, filling in a withdrawal form and even punching in a queue card. She continued however that when his queue was called, the thief reached for her with his left hand and used another to grab a 30 centimeter-long blade out of this backpack to threaten her to give him the money.

She handed 79,000 baht cash to the robber, before he made a dash.

Investigations revealed that the robber was alone, suspecting that he had done a thorough research on the bank's activities, judging from the fact that he timed his execution during the lunch time where both the bank staff and customers were light.

Authorities however were able to find the knife used in the crime and are working to find the identity of the robber via finger prints.

Govt mulls special administration for southern border region
By Digital Media

BANGKOK, June 6 – Three sensitive provinces in Thailand’s far South could be declared a special administrative region, National Security Council (NSC) chief said today.

Lt Gen Paradorn Patanatabut said the government is conducting a public opinion assessment on the idea of special administration similar to those of Bangkok, Pattaya and Mae Sod district in Tak province.

He said the proposal would not affect resolutions to the southern problem since the government strictly adheres to the constitution without the notion of separating the region from the kingdom.

The NSC secretary general said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed security officials to urgently improve infrastructure and safety measures for people in the three southern border provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala.

Ms Yingluck, chairing a security meeting today, reportedly told authorities to facilitate the southern residents transport and ensure accessibility to villages and communities. (MCOT online news)
